Then why are you here?

There are some on this site that I would listen to when talking about food. People with enough context to what they write.

Usually those people are the type that don't write up long winded reviews.

Also, the beer.

Dunno about you guys, but there are a decent number of multinational brands, local companies, and yes, restaurants that I choose not to patronize because of policies, politics, or the conduct of owners.

Negative. I keep protesting politics out of my mealtime.

Which is probably why this thread is laughable.

You've said you were bored reading this thread and now that it's laughable, but you sure do keep posting in it. Must not be that boring.

I had to read the last couple pages when I saw it was still going this morning.

The witchhunt is terrific.

On the owner's page, which you can get to very easily from the restaurant's page. In the comments on one of this yelp rants.

I think most level-headed people don't care much about an owner's personal style, political views, or faults as a human being - so long as they keep it to themselves. This guy decided to put it out there in a public forum that he was essentially better than his customers. Don't think anyone is being unfair in judging him accordingly.

weve seen plenty of people thumb their noses at yelp and the reviewers that are out of control and it go viral as them being funny and amusing -- people hate us on yelp stickers are a real thing for a reason. i think hes hoping for that kind of response, and just missing the mark.

I simply can't stand Yelp and the public forum it has become

As someone who works really hard at running a business and generating a positive public perception, I don't necessarily disagree with you. Currently, I have 10 legit five star reviews that are "hidden"...had a simple miscommunication with someone a couple years back, they created a Yelp account for the sole purpose of giving me a one-star review, and that stuck until we cleared it up privately and the customer removed it. Their algorithm is screwed up, no question about it...it is a class-action lawsuit waiting to happen.

That said, you can't rip people openly...it just makes you look bad. There is an art in crafting a response that directly refutes what the reviewer says (if it is unwarranted) and makes them look ridiculous. If it is warranted...thank them and use it to get better.

Wow this is awesome.

I'm impressed the owner showed up.

Without going back and digging up the dead dog post-:rimshot:
There is nothing wrong with addressing negative reviews. It's all in the delivery and what you say. Address it head on with some tact and you actually turn a negative into a positive.

I will absolutely go to a place with negative reviews where the owner/manager is responding respectfully.

How does this work exactly? I don't get the process, I guess.

Most folks will take to media rather than voicing their criticisms at the restaurant.

And like someone pointed out, there is a limit to the complaints you can make in the restaurant. Too salty, putrid taste, spoiled food, under/overcooked food, etc. -- Absolutely. Complain.

But requesting the manager/owner because the food was just decent and a little overpriced just makes you look like a jerk. Especially if you're with friends or work associates. This is why people go onto social media and leave these reviews.
