Per BR Business Report.
Hopefully they can restore Tio Javi's back to Ninfa's heyday in the early to mid 1990s. For whatever reason, it is a complete former shell of itself and not one that we even consider anymore for decent Tex-Mex.

Bachman, who got his start working at a Moran-owned Ruth’s Chris restaurant in Chicago, says he wanted to buy Tio Javi’s because of its proximity to Ruth’s Chris and because he saw opportunities to improve on it. “I’m just going to make it better,” says Bachman, though he has no plans for a major overhaul or expansion at this point. “We are just trying to fresh everything up and make a good culture over there.”

I actually thought the guy that changed the name bought it.

I went to Ninfa's once not long before it became Tio Javi's. I don't know how they did it, but they managed to screw up fajitas to the point they were borderline inedible. It's nearly impossible to screw up fajitas (I thought it was impossible), but they somehow found a way.

I remember when they would compete with Superior Grill with their Thursday night crowds circa 2001-2003

I hope so too. Before kids we were there at least once a week (during the mid 90s). The last few years we've had hit or miss meals. They were either really, really good or really, really bad. You know it's in a major decline when you don't have to park half a mile away on a random weeknight.

I ate lunch at Tio Javi's this past Fall. I always order the grilled chicken breast covered in peppers, onions, and cheese. The chicken breast was still partially frozen and raw in middle.
I wish it would get back to what Ninfas was like in the early 2000's.

For his part, T. J. Moran’s son, Burke Moran, who lives in Montana, says the family was only too happy to sell Tio Javi’s when Bachman approached them last fall. “We don’t do Mexican well so when Chris made an offer we jumped at the chance.”
this quote is strange to me because Burke has several Tio Javi's in the west, including Bozeman. I've been there it is exactly like Ninfa's/Tio Javi's here in BR. I wonder if he's gotten rid of them out west?
I think Burke used to post here at one point.

As if Lafayette didn't have enough shitty restaurants already. I'll never understand the fascination with TJ Ribs.

Back a few years ago TJ ribs was great. They had amazing cut to order prime ribs specials and their food was very good it was one of our go to spots back when I was making a good living. It declined over time they quit the prime rib and the food quality declined so we quit going there. We passed one and thought of trying it but continued to Red Robin I know yall dont like it but their gluten free burger bun is a big winner for me and Peg. So how is TJ ribs now a days.

Bring back Elvis the kitchen manager at ninfafas....food went down after he left..
Always heard that t.j. Morans son was difficult to work with and he ran good employees away...
Kinda sounds like Mike andersons

I seriously don't get the hate for this place. Every time we go our meal is great.
There is a noticeable difference in the steak offerings since they took it over last November.
Green dip and salsa are spicier, they still have the spicy carrots, and you can get a huge a la carte taco for $5.
When I compare that to the $20 Queso at the new superior, the choice isnt hard....

Lafayette is totally over populated now with restaurants.
But there is an opening for spots like TJ Ribs and PF Changs

Their clientele really enjoys the $2 dollar margaritas.
Almost as much as the $1 margaritas.

The green sauce is completely different, as it doesn’t have the taste and appears to be thicker.

I wonder if they'll change out the 90s classic music for some Mexican music.

Who was the poster here that used to lose his mind if people hated on ninfas?
