Most of the year I go beer and vodka--with tonic or neat. When it turns cooler I want something darker and more complex. Can't seem to tolerate whiskey. Bought a bottle of aged rum and like it. But want to experiment without arbitrary choices. Price point around $30?? Thank you.

Bump up ya price pt just a lil bit
But these are damn fine sippers around $40
There’s an El Dorado 12 yr that’s close to $30 also but the 15 is just too damn good imo

One of my favorites in the summertime

The Bayou rums are in ya price pt and some store will have a barrel pick also, solid as well

Plantation XO 20th is awesome. Around $50. Run isn’t the game bourbon/whiskey is yet. To sip meat I’d agree with stepping up the price range a bit.

Smith and cross is a good rum around $30.

What kind was it?

Also what kind of whiskey have you tried that you can't tolerate? There is a big difference between a triple distilled Irish whiskey and a Islay scotch

Cruzan single barrel aged 5-12 years

Various whiskeys and bourbons. Same price range. Gave me marked indigestion and burning. Dunno why. Probably because I’m cheap. But it was consistent. I liked the aftertaste of rum better. Didn’t leave a dry feeling in my mouth.

You won’t go wrong here. Great introduction for a sipping rum.

Believe it or not the captain Morgan private stock ain’t half bad and would fit your price point.

A lot of the high end popular rums have sugar added to them, which I personally don't like. Good news is there are a lot of high quality rums out there, and it's a relative bargain when compared to scotch, bourbon, etc. Almost anything from Foursquare Distillery will be top notch. 2007, 2008, Detente, Redoubtable, Sagacity, etc are all very good.

The Fat Rum Pirate is a good source for reviews. Warning: he hates a lot of stuff that is popular.
