I noticed Larry's back-to-back posts over the weekend and the first one was amusing, but with the second one, it turned me off.
Shout out to the OG of this maneuver who seriously does not GAF - Dan Stein.

first thing I thought of
But Dan is loved for it. It's part of his "charm." He's the exception that proves the rule.

I am mostly in favor of restaurants calling out particularly egregious reviews that reek of bullshite. If it is clear that they shite on every single negative review, even ones that seem legit and reasonable, that raises a red flag. I still don't mind that, though, because it's just more information for me.

I’ve found customers have legit complaints about 1 out of 25 times. Everyone thinks they have the know how to run a restaurant (just read threads on here). People can really say anything and the public will latch on as truth
The internet era has changed the game and it gives every idiot a voice. I urge every person consuming reviews to take them with a huge grain of salt
If you follow up with a customer regarding an issue, they always want you to either fire the worker, refund their money, or comp them a meal (or all three!)

This site is a good example of that.
"Worst service ever"
"Literally waited 30 minutes for our water"
"Food was inedible"

Yep. A "1" is not worth reading other than for the entertainment.
But a place with 30% of their ratings at 1 or 2 is worth wondering about.

I don't think that's "always" the case. I do believe that it happens, though.
I think some folks commenting on restaurants don't eat out much. I don't read Yelp much. I go there sometimes to see if there are pictures, but rarely look at the reviews. Same with Trip Advisor and some other sites. Doesn't Yelp give out some sort of rewards for more reviews? Seems like someone here pointed that out a while back.

I just found the Brown Butter review on Yelp with the actual BB response. I hadn't read that.

Jace,
Congrats! You win the award for the nastiest (and honestly, one of the funniest) reviews we've ever received here at Brown Butthole.
We can tell that you are a fancy man, as evidenced by the fact that you've visited 75 different restaurants AND establishments in the New Orleans area. You'll be glad to know that we let both the server and the hostess go as soon as we read your review. We don't have time or patience for our guests being treated that way.
But seriously, next time, go with your gut instincts, and do stay home. You oughta be ashamed of yourself.
Kind Regards,
Simon

Sure, I'm fine with that.

But not like this. The reviewer may be totally full of shite, and I usely side with that they are. However, responding like this is probably worse. It reeks of 12 year old girl. So unprofessional, I wouldnt go there because of this kind of behavior. Ignore the obviously far-fetched bad reviews and answer the ones that may have some merit with something like "we're sorry you didn't have a good experience. We try to provide each guest will the best service and food we can, and hope we can earn your business back in the future." Not hard and just showing people you care a lot of the time can make up for a bad experience.

The restaurant's responses to other reviews are very much as you suggest. Apparently, Simon lost it over the one in the OP. It was a pretty juvenile review. The name calling and reference to food poisoning and diarrhea are over the top. I think the restaurant should have just left it alone. It was apparent in reading the review that nothing was going to satisfy the writer.

Interestingly, Brown Butter has now removed the jacesucks hashtag and posted about their own post.
quote:
With regard to the social media review we received yesterday afternoon...
We apologize to anyone who may have taken our response the wrong way. No offense was intended to anyone other than its original recipient. The fact is the review in question was needlessly insulting and childish, and we responded in kind.
We work hard every day to provide the best possible experience to anyone who walks through our doors. We realize of course, that sometimes a patron may have a less than satisfactory experience with us; despite our best efforts we simply cannot be everything, to everyone, all of the time. And while we strive to make things right whenever we can, there is a difference between legitimate criticism and childish insults.
We stand by our food, our service, and above all, our staff, without whom Brown Butter would not exist.
Thanks,
Brown Butter

Are there 75 places that serve brunch?
Posted on 4/16/18 at 6:05 pm to Gris Gris
Way to crumble Brown Butter.
Should have stuck with it.
Nothing beats Jez offering to frick District Donuts customers with a selfie stick though.

I guess that depends on how you define the New Orleans area and "brunch". If you eat breakfast at a Huddle House at 11 am, is it brunch?
For a guy who has eaten brunch at 75 restaurants in the New Orleans area, he only wrote the one review on Yelp.

Hate these “apologies” that put the blame on the one offended.

They "apologized" by blaming that guy again and not acknowledging what they did was incredibly childish and unprofessional. Again, I'm sure that review was without basis, but that shouldn't make you act like an idiot.

If you guys like reading owners going off the rail and insulting customers, check out the reviews for Bills by The Beach in Gulf Shores. The owner sits on his computer in the corner of the restaurant and responds to every negative review. Very light and funny reading.

I know Ronnie from Blue Oak really had liked this review but not sure he actually followed through with the t-shirts.
