Restaurants sharing their Yelp reviews - yay or nay?

First noticed this with Compere Lapin, but it seems to be catching on at several places.

Brown Butter screen shotted a nasty Yelp review this weekend, where they underlined and highlighted each grammatical error. Compere Lapin has been sharing quite a few lately as well.

Thoughts? The comments are split on these posts. Unprofessional? Funny? Deserved?

Well deserved imo. Online reviews aren't even bothered with in my company for a couple reason. The main one being that they tend to be extremely exaggerated. If one things go wrong they go out of their way, if not by lying, to pile it on. The other is that our social media marketing company can get any review we want removed. If you think you're getting honest reviews from people on these sites you're dead wrong in the majority of cases

I don’t care for it. In today’s attention seeking social media culture, giving these reviews and reviewers attention and the spotlight would seem to encourage other people to submit similar reviews.

I tend to side with the patrons on one of the American Bywater Bistro review. Both times I have sat at the bar at Compere Lapin have been strange when it comes to bartenders with similar comments as the jewilie chick posted. I think it is the restaurants laid back "we're chill bro" style of running the restaurant. Food is good so it doesn't stop me from going back.

I think the restaurants posting are about as absurd as the people reviewing. Neither should be doing what they are doing.

The first review I have no issue with before that reviewer sounds like an idiot. The second one I feel the owner could have handled it differently.

Business owners should open a TD account and air out their beef here.

The Brown Butter owner seems like a guy who normally tries to do the right thing. We had slow service when we were there but running to Yelp to complain seems antiproductive. If I had issue I would tell the owner/manager while I was there and be done with it.

I’d say it’s all free market. The restaurants probably love all the “so wonderful! Joe our server was fantastic!” crap posted about them.

Reviews are a part of the world whether it’s restaurants, kitchen faucets, ceiling fans, or sports venues.

If a place or product has bunches of bad ones, they probably deserve them overall. A small percentage of bad ones are easily overlooked as being outliers.

My "problem" with restaurants sharing reviews like this is that it *sometimes* undermines legitimate complaints. Are many of the top? Yes, but they wouldn't have been inspired to write a negative review has there not been a some problem.

The best places will rise with the positive reviews and the others will sink in ratings, often because they ignored the underlying issues in negative reviews.

The professional reviewers and those who complain over every little thing are the worst.

Yep.
Last week when the new doughnut shop in Metairie opened some jackass went in in the first 30 minutes of their grand opening and they didn’t have everything ready. He couldn’t wait to run ASAP to post a negative review on their Facebook page. He probably did it while sitting in the parking lot

Restaurant owner has a right to post them if he wants, however, customers have a right to see that and think he’s a little bitch who can’t take criticism.

Attack reviewers at your own risk, however, if the only response to their criticisms is to address their grammar mistakes, it’s not a good look. Complaints must have been legitimate.

In my opinion, the best way to deal with negative reviews is to internally address the underlying issues and then either publicly apologize or ignore. Don’t get into a fight with somebody behind a keyboard with nothing to lose.

Another reason why social media is leading to the decline of modern society.

People don't interact in person anymore. Gives me a sad.

I completely forget about Brown Butter when thinking of a place to eat around Mid City. I've eaten there before, but there wasn't anything about it that sticks out. I guess bad pub. is better than no pub.

I think its hilarious that Larry Miller states that his employee "Is not a kid, he's a good dude". As if he was just a bystander that politely called the guy an uber and helped him on his way.

The Bywater response seems pretty douchey

Either answer professionally or don't answer regardless of the review. If a business answers in a smart arse way, it doesn't look good to me. It makes me wonder how they handle legitimate issues. It doesn't make me want to run out and do business with that entity whatever it may be.

If you roll with the pigs, you get just as dirty.

I can't imagine responding to a customer complaint in that manner, publicly. I understand the desire to do it, but I wouldn't do it. Not much good will come of it.

What really undermines legitimate complaints is illegitimate ones. I've gotten to the point where I automatically assume a disgruntled costumer is lying after a failed attempt to extort extra product or service.
