A honeycrisp handpicked fresh off the tree is a real treat.
As is fresh picked sweet corn. Not sure which I enjoy more.

Cosmic Crisp are the favorite for me. Then Honeycrisp. Then I really like the Autumn Glory. It has cinnamon taste.

Just because you can’t find a good Red Delicious apple doesn’t mean there aren’t still great Red Delicious apples. Get them in season in apple country (or maybe I should say Johnny Appleseed country) and they rule.

I ordered some Red Delicious apples from Amazon Fresh during the beginning of the pandemic because that's all they had. When they arrived they didn't look like the Red Delicious that we are used to seeing in American grocery stores. They were from Argentina and didn't have that thick, bright red skin. They had thinner skin with more yellow, and those arrived for weeks whenever I ordered Red Delicious.
They were by far the best Red Delicious apples I've ever eaten. Apparently they are an heirloom variety that predates the newer burgundy varieties. I read at the time that Argentina was one of (or possibly the only) country that didn't replace the older variety with the modern Red Delicious that everyone loves to hate.

For me, more than any other quality, an apple has to be crisp/crunchy. Red Delicious are far too inconsistent in that category. Even the ones that look like they will be crisp when purchased.
My go to "red" apple is the Envy apple. It's not always a sweet as a red delicious (or others) but they are almost ALWAYS crisp/crunchy
Aside from those, Granny Smith green apples are always a part of the rotation.

It's very easy for us to be spoiled in our land of plenty. If I were homesteading and growing my own food before the days of the industrialization and overflowing grocery aisles. You better damn well believe I'd be growing for reliable yield.
