I was wondering the same thing because I had a delicious brunch at La Petite Grocery this weekend.

Only going to bourbon on Saturday night to let her experience it for the first time.

Definitely going to let her eat some beignets and walk around Jackson square hit up the shops.

Have you been on Bourbon St recently? Take a stroll down Bourbon in the daylight and then, be done with it with the exception of eating somewhere there that's decent. A short stroll down the street is all anyone needs to see if they insist on seeing it, truly.

The ghost tours typically don't take you to Marie Laveau's gravesite. They walk around the FQ and talk about different stories at various houses in the FQ at night. I guess they are somewhat worth doing for a tourist.

Marie Laveau is buried in St Louis Cemetary #1. I sure as shite do not recommend you go in that area at night. There might be some Cemetary tours but I've actually never done one. SLC#1 is not in a good part of town but it should be...ok in a tour group.

100% Agree. I absolutely hate when tourists leave and spent the majority of their time on Bourbon.

You should walk down it for about 20 minutes just to do it, and then spend the rest of your time in places that don't suck. Just IMO, do what you want.

You can't go in by yourself anymore. You have to be with a registered tour guide.

eta: For a sandwich when you're walking around.. You have to go to Central Grocery on Decatur and get a muffaletta and a Barg's Root Beer.. Just because. And go to Cafe du Monde and have coffee and beignets.. Sit a while and take in the atmosphere. Walk down to the French Market and have a seat at Latrobe park. Take your time, don't rush through your visit. Walk around Jackson Square, go up on the levee and walk the Mississippi River. Have a drink at Tujaque's. Enjoy your time with your lady. New Orleans is a very romantic town and the really fun stuff is not on Bourbon Street.

Bourbon House was good last time I was there. Of course I had already had a couple of flights of bourbon before my meal arrived.

but its in the french quarter.

FQ defender here, btw. When i entertain out of town friends, this is the area they like the most. FQ, then to the marigny. It has the most things to do, best sights, interesting people, music, etc. Bourbon Street isnt the only gem of the FQ.

Dip out into uptown to have dinner, give a small tour. See the oak trees and houses on St Charles, or whatever other people consider entertaining in uptown for out of towners. Shopping on Magazine? freaking lame. The neighborhood vibe is cool for locals, but it's not very interesting for out of towners. Maybe older people you entertain. Im in my early 30s.

Hit up Tujaques right there near Jackson Square and someone suggested Mona Lisa already. I love that place. They have some good food there, very casual and very reasonably priced.

Tujagues is a good rec IMO.

Beautiful old style bar/barkeep.. And good casual food.

Ask for the off-menu Chicken Bonne Femme and indulge.

The thousands who clog the fricking sidewalks and cause traffic jams, especially between Washington and Napoleon, seem to contradict that notion.
