Asking for a friend... are there any local meat markets who have this stuff available? (SE Louisiana)

Piece of Meat has had them on several occasions. They are on “summer break” right now though.

Umami serves it as a special often. Maybe they sourced it locally?

I am all for a highly marbled steak, but damn that is a bit much for me

Yeah. That looks like WAY too much fat.
That thing probably shrinks by 50% or more just to cook it medium rare.

I don’t think steaks that are like $20 an oz are going to shrink 50%

That looks like a damn lung.

I saw where a butchers shop on the other end of town from me (central MS) just got what looked like a ribeye loin of A-5 in on Thursday or Friday. They are charging $10/oz.

There are still a lot of chefs out there that prefer prime.

B&B Butchers in Houston serves it and they call it butcher’s butter.
Never had it but it’s something like $200 for 4 ounces. They supposedly don’t give you a knife because a fork can cut it.

Well I’d think chefs prefer prime bc paying $150 for a 10oz steak means they gotta sell it for a ridiculous amount. There isn’t a market for it to keep it on regular menus
OP, Raines Farms in Rayville, LA are putting out domestic wagyu. Snake River Farms as well. Never had Japanese wagyu but SRF gold grade wagyu
NY strip is the best steak I’ve ever had. And I’m a ribeye guy

Hassel meats in Tyler Texas, I’ve bought from them before. Next day air shipping and affordable.

Hassel will have a distribution site in Youngsville at Raz's ...little place to get Primo Grills and other BBQ related stuff!

I ordered 475 dollars worth, steaks, hamburger patties, jerky, skirt steak and filets. It is freaking awesome, the nice man that took my order was the actual owner. Will buy from again soon.

You're not suppose to eat 16oz of A5. You eat a 3 or 4 ounces.

Yeah A5 is a completely different experience- you only eat a couple ounces.
I’ve had A5 ribeye, New York and filet/tenderloin. The only cut I could eat a normal portion of is the filet.
Crowd cow has authentic a5 from Kobe at about $50/oz right now. The a5 from other prefectures runs $15-20/oz.

I gotta say, when I think of fancy, expensive things on menus that I really don't like, Wagyu is #1 on the list.
