Raising Cane's is Business Insider's top restaurant chain of 2017

We ate at dozens of fast-food chains in 2017 — here's the best

quote:

At the time, Hollis Johnson and I reviewed the chain by saying: "The quality of Raising Cane's chicken fingers raises the bar for all chicken chains. As the up-and-coming chain continues to advance, rivals like KFC and Chick-fil-A should be scared."

In the months filled with mediocre fried chicken since, I've only become more convinced of that fact. Raising Cane's was a culinary standout in 2017 — and, with its rapid expansion and strategically simplistic menu, it's in a prime position for business to explode in years to come.

I'm guessing Hollis and Kate are not FD regulars.

Know what didn't blow up? The size of those tenders. Price blew up though.

Well earned IMO. Many complain about the size of the tenders but they have great service, very good product, and consistency of quality.

Shows how little I know about the quality and food dollar value of fried chicken strips.

I think they are over priced and not all that good.

I give them a two out of four star rating.

Meh.

I know you are interested in my highly ranked chicken strip places, so ere are #1 and #2

#1 Pure Oil gas station east of Kemper County courthouse in DeKalb, MS.

#2 Conoco Gas Station on Highway 82 - East side of Greenwood MS.

Strong #1 and #2. From there it goes down to Meh pretty quickly. I guess #3 would be a three way tie between the 2 Popeye's locations in Meridian, MS and the one at the Springhill Exit on I-20 in Clinton, where we now live.

#1 and 2 have both size and quality over Popeye's in both strips and whole piece fried chicken. #1 has excellent JoJo logs.

Special Kudos to Popeye's for their commitment to outstanding fast food Red Beans and biscuits.

Y’all remember when the box combo came out to $6 even with tax, included 5 tenders and 3 oz of canes sauce?

At first I laughed at you putting two gas stations atop your list, then I realized I think I like the ones at the gas station near my house more than most other places. 4 huge strips for 2.99. Regular, Tennessee hot, Buffalo, and barbecue options.

Just had it yesterday on the way home from Bama. They over cooked the chicken and I had a pool of grease in my basket. Also the damn breading slid off on the first bite. I was disapoint.

What does Canes cost these days?

I’d venture to guess 5 of those tenders cost them under $1. They’re making money hand over fist with that stupid simple menu options.

I just wish they had some cayenne pepper and a little garlic in that marinade instead of straight sodium. If they had a spicy version of their chicken that maintained that juiciness, they would be even better.

Any of you eaten at Slim Chicken’s? We have one opening in Ridgeland this month. Looks like they trying to compete with Cane’s but they have more sauces and also offer wings.

I like Raising Cane's. We eat Cane's a few times per month.

Dumbest thing I have read. Cane's is not on the same plane as Chick-fil-A, and KFC isn't even a distant rival.

Chick-fil-A is head and shoulders above all fast foods at this point and time.
