While we are talking crabs....if I catch some Wednesday how should I keep them until Friday? Or is that too long?

I have some room at my house. I can hold them for you.

As long as you keep the crabs cold (but not freezing) and moist (but not soaking), with access to air, they should be fine. IOW, don't submerge in water, don't freeze, don't seal up in an airtight cooler.

I used to keep crabs in an old fridge on the medium setting for 4 days and they were almost always all alive on day 4. I would leave the door cracked so air could get in. I would cover with a wet burlap sack and check it daily. Wet it as needed.
Smaller crabs always seemed to last the big would be the ones who didn't make it. Not sure why.

I eat everything that's orange or orangeish inside. I also will tilt the shell back and drink all the juice inside. Also break every single joint in the arms and eat that meat.

Cool ill come bring the shells you can hold till garbage pickup day
Last ones I had I put them on a layer of ice and put some ice on top but I had the lid shut. I boiled the next day and none were alive. Would a wet towel work as well if I don't have burlap?
What about while on the boat they need to go on ice or just a basket with a wet towel on top to keep them wet and out the sun?

I found an article regarding boiled vs steamed crabs. It doesn't settle a thing but it's a decent read.

They don’t eat females either.

The eggs in females are delicious. The Vietnamese use it in shrimp and crab ball soup.

Pop that skin on the side and drink the liquid with the fat out of the shell.
100%
That is why you open the crab upside down so you can drink the juice.

I prefer the orange and yellow stuff to the actual meat. That's why I prefer female crabs.

Crabbers dont put them on ice when they catch them. They go into a lug, a plastic crate. And then to the crab house.
When I go catch them I put them in a plastic drum and cull them. I then put them in a big ice chest with some frozen milk jugs. To keep them cool. If you drop room temp crabs into hot water they will drop their legs. So I put them in cold so that doesnt happen.

Interesting fact (or not), the mustard, as it is sometimes called, is actually a gland known as the hepatopancreas, a major component of the crab's digestive system.
And yes, I eat everything in the crab except the gills, eyes, & shell!

I was on Chincoteague...told that they give the females to people who fish under bridges. These were Coast Guarders stationed there though. The bar gave me a fricking hammer to pick the crabs with, so I’m not sure anyone knew wtf was going on.

Interesting...the wife loves that orange stuff but always thought it was fat. She seems to think she only finds it in females.

Yep, a bite of 50/50 crab meat/fat is one of the best things that I don't eat much of anymore.

Dangit man...you took me down a short rabbit hole saying that part might be a cause of Paralytic shellfish poisoning. The crab can filter the neurotoxins associated with it and store it in those clumps in some sort of fashion.
