Silly question but wanted to survey the group. I got half dozen jumbo crabs this weekend (god damn i forgot how much i like a good boiled crab). I eat everything in the crab except the dead man. Got me to wondering, how many of you eat the innards and fat and how many discard.

Go.

At Schaefers in bucktown. Expensive, 60 for dozen but they were true jumbos and full, not a skinny one.

Do they really boil crabs down there or steam them and boiled is just the term used?

when you steam, how do you get seasoning into the crab? Is it just dusted on the outside?

Maryland style is steamed with Old Bay on the shell.

FYI, 75% of the crabs eaten in Maryland and surrounding areas come from Louisiana

Truth. Those yankee bastards are the reason why my crabs are so damn expensive.

I live in philly for awhile and had them this way. its not as bad as you think. while picking the crabs the old bay gets on your fingers and thus on the meat and into your mouth. I still prefer boiled though.

shite is why "jumbos" are so rare to find here. So those assholes can eat seasoned shells.

I love the fat in the crab and am glad that my wife can't stomach it since I get all of it for myself. I love the crab meat, but eating the fat is right there on par with the great lump crab meat.

I've never quite understood this similar to understanding why folks sprinkle seasoning on the outside of the crawfish.

I was chatting with some folks from MD and talking about eating crab claws. They told me the claws are trash in MD and tossed. I love claw meat. They couldn't believe we eat it!

Everything I can except for the gills and one other piece that is chewy. (I assume it is the brains)

Some of the best parts of the crab is on the sides of the top shell. Pop that skin on the side and drink the liquid with the fat out of the shell.

Different strokes I guess. Crabs in the carb houses up here are really good.

Thanks for shipping the crabs up here. We do appreciate it.
