I just want to vent a little. I hate when Mardi Gras is so late like it is this year. It makes the King cake season last for 2 months instead of maybe a little over a 1 month. The temptations are tough. Yesterday at work there were 4 different king cakes plus donuts. Hurry up Lent, you can't get here to soon.

Thanks! I really appreciate this thread guys, I've been going back thru the pages and ya'll have been making some major progress. I think it always helps to have friends to vent to and share successes with.

Thanks guys, ya'll are already making me feel welcome here. My go-to meal when I'm trying to behave is grilled salmon filets marinaded in honey, lime and ginger. I have 1 portion for dinner w/a small sweet potato (plain) and then use another part of the filet the next day over mixed salad greens for my lunch at work.

What are some ideas of low cal/low fat entrees that ya'll fix and freeze for cold yucky weather like we're having now? I'm getting burned out on my lowfat lasagna.

Someone dropped off 2 king cakes yesterday afternoon. No one claimed to have the babies, so I'm hoping no one brings anymore in.

I work with a bunch of cheap folks.

The only reason the king cakes came in yesterday was for someone's birthday.

I can pass up king cake most days. However, the chocolate cake I had in my house (my niece baked it while staying with me over the weekend) is a different story!

On a plateau and in fact have gained a pound the last few days even though I have been at 1200 or less calories.

Was hoping for a good week cause I have to go out this weekend.

ok time for truth in advertising. i've gained a bit due to going out and carousing (shut up geauxt and otis) and given the ambitious bike racing schedule i have this summer i have to shave probably 20lbs to be competitive on the climbs.

as of today i'm 216.0 (there is water weight here to be sure but i have 2 scales so i cant lie to myself if they both say the same thing) and i'm shooting for 199 by march and 187 by summer.

since that is what myth is shooting for, it will be fun to put myself next to him since we're virtually *identical* weights today.

that way i can laugh at him when i get ahead and he can laugh at me when he kicks my arse.

nothing like a little masochistic torture by revealing your secrets to TD.com to motivate you huh?

so lets go myth. LETS. FINISH. THIS.

257/216/185 (well 187 was my original goal but i'll move it to 185 to match myth)

Back down to below Thanksgiving weight when this all originally started! I haven't checked in for quite some time. Mostly because I was getting depressed that it wasn't dropping again. Gained about 8-10 from turkey day to Christmas, but it's all gone plus some.

Good job everyone.

Since you brought up fish....I love Talapia fillets. Top with McCormick Grillmates and put In a good nonstick pan for 15 minutes.

I have been low carb almost the whole way. Sometimes Atkins other times just low carbs and always around 1200 calories.

323/215.4/185

All of the cheating I did around Christmas and New Years kicked my body off kilter. I was used to 1200 calories but all the food I ate over the holidays has my body wanting a full 2000 a day again.

It has been a real pain the in A to get back into the flow of things.

Yep, that's exactly how I'm doing it. No magic pills, weird diets or anything. I'm simply walking/running about 1-3 miles in the morning and I ride about 5 miles on the exercise bike. That is sometimes in the morning or mid-evening after the dinner has settled.

I'm not counting carbs or anything, but I'm keeping my intake of calories around 1500-1800 a day. I allow myself one day on the wknd to cheat and I don't count anything. I always see a bump on Mon or Tues, but I'm not miserable!

If I hated the diet I was on it wouldn't last more than a month, I'm sure.

ding ding ding

winner.

no matter what..you *HAVE* to take in fewer calories than you burn in the same period of time.

you're going to burn x # of calories per hour anyway..going running, etc. will only yield the elevated burn rate (y - x) so keep in mind that you can't assume you burned another 500 calories when in fact you would have already burned 150 by staying as still as possible on the couch.

its the net..350 calories..you've added to your total for the day...not 500. (numbers are hypothetical btw)

im-NOT-SO-ho skip the cupcake, skip the sugared soft drink, focus on putting less in your damn mouth and the weight will come off a whole lot easier.

plus you're going to eventually get burned out with all the extra exercise and give it up. its better to condition your appetite to consuming less.

you can do more in a 15 minute cross-fit or p90x than 2-3 hours of aerobic exercise. that burst will crank your metabolism and your body will benefit the rest of the day from it.

My company is having our version of the biggest loser starting tommorrow. We weigh in at 9am. Contest goes for 3 months. Person who loses the most per cent body weight wins the grand prize of $500. Second and third also get paid. A little added incentive.

when you get off of atkins and start reintroducing your body to far more than 20g of carbs a day, it is shocked in the other direction and stores it like it will never get carbs again and you'll pack almost all of that back on ... just seems like a waste of three weeks and some setting yourself up for frustration on the scale in a month or so to me ... i just don't think there is anything better than keeping the calories between 1500 and 1800 a day and, as you say, just move .. don't go to the gym and act like you're rocky getting ready to fight apollo .. just work your way up to walking 3 miles a day .. that's all .. you are just trying to lose weight .. not entering a mr. universe competition .. as you alluded to, people will get burned out on busting their arse with a new exercise regimen .. they don't get burned out on walking .. or at least they shouldn't since they have to walk everyday in life anyway ... i wake up at 5AM everyday, throw the ipod and earphones on and walk three miles .. have been doing this everyday for almost 10 years now .. not really on any special diet, just really watch the sizes of my portions and have never really been a fan at all of ice cream, cakes, pies, or candy .. so i really don't crave sweets ... looks to me like almost everyone in here has the right idea .. eat less and move more ... and hats off of tigermyth .. he's lost over 100 pounds in 9 months .. that is fricking amazing .. a very very small percentage of society could do that on their own ...

I want to thank everyone here. As you can tell from the left, I have a been a member of this site for a long time but almost never post. The OT and Poli boards are my daily chuckle, I read a few recruiting posts and shake my head at the comments on the Rant. I found this topic last night and it moved me.

My DR gave me the "talk" on Dec 16 after my annual visit. I blew him off again until I got the phone call with my blood work results right after Christmas. "Killing myself not so slowly" was the words he used. I love my DR! Time to shut up and get moving. I thank you all for the information you have posted as it has confirmed the plan I put in action on December 26. I cut my daily intake to 1750 calories per day. I write every thing down! I exercise every other day and count the burn. It has become a challenge to increase it by 10 calories each trip. Minnie Goals.

I'm only 5'7" 42yrs old - 258/243/185

Again - thank you for your information and inspiration.
