I made my first gumbo around 40 years ago and have made probably well over 300 since. I have never used store bought roux because it is unnecessary. basically use Paul P.s recipe and always used a fresh hen, deboning after tender. As per Prudhomme's recipe, fresh parsley and green onions at the end. Don't forget the thyme and bay leaves added with the trinity to the hot roux.
Most all the time, especially at night. If a urinal is available then I'll stand to use that for convenience.
My buddy and I were on a trip from Baton Rouge to Salt Lake City to go skiing in January 1977. Christmas break from LSU, driving a Fiat sedan. Just short of Lubbock, on a Saturday afternoon, the back end started shaking. The A frame was cracked and the local Fiat dealer couldn't fix it until Monday. The car was drivable but only up to about 35 mph. Just got a cheap hotel room and watched playoff games and got loaded all weekend. Was lucky to get out Monday afternoon because they found a used part to replace it. New one from Houston would have been another day or two.

You can see the bottle in her back pocket earlier in the video as she starts directing traffic.
Bought some yesterday at the Breaux Mart in River Ridge.
It was a very common supper growing up on a rice farm, either cornbread, coush coush, or biscuits. All eaten in a bowl with milk. I still eat my cornbread and biscuits in a bowl that way. With the coush coush the best thing was some gratons (cracklin to the uneducated).
I agree with Stadium Rat on everything except the parboiled rice. As someone who grew up on a rice farm, I have never in my life used it and never will. To me it will spoil the taste and texture of the Jambalaya. I always use green onions and parsley at the end along with bay leaf and thyme added with the trinity. I can tell the difference when those are not used.
One more not related to pro golfers. In 1988 I was standing by the clubhouse at the Lafayette Municipal park course (Hebert) watching a group teeing off. One guy was so bad that he could not hit the ball. He swung maybe 6 or 8 times and either hit a foot behind it or swung over the top. Then one of the guys that was laughing at him was taking a practice swing while facing the clubhouse. He lost his grip on the club and it ended up on the roof of the clubhouse.
I work as a volunteer for the Zurich in New Orleans as a walking scorer. About 10 plus years ago I had Fulton Allem (South African) in the group I was following. This was at English Turn before moving to TPC. He was not happy with some of his shots on the first few holes and had let a few choice words loose. He also buried his iron in the front of the tee box on the par 3 3rd hole. On no. 5 he pulled his tee shot into the pampas grass bushes that lined the left side of the hole. As we walked down the fairway to where the marshals were searching for his ball, he was cursing up a storm. His caddy reached the bushes before us and set the bag down to help with the search. When Fulton reached the area he was so pissed that he picked up the bag and dumped it upside down into one of the other bushes next to the one they were searching. I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing. The caddy didn't think it was very funny because he had to dig all the clubs out of the bush. It was even less funny when on the next tee box he realized he was missing a club. He had to detour back over to the bush to dig out the missing club.
Pasatiempo
Bethpage Black (slept in my car overnight)

after those the next tier would be

Cambrian Ridge
LaTour
The Preserve (MS)

How long is he out? one of our best shooters, we need him back

Brandon Sampson

Where was Sampson for Wake Forest? Not on the bench. Is he injured?
Watched the game on replay last night on ESPN watch. Probably available for some time since some older games are still available. Very smooth and made some very nice passes, but had a lot of turnovers. Understandable in high school due to pace these teams play at. Gorman had 30+ turnovers and I'm sure Montverde had 20+ at least. As someone earlier said, more like Magic than LBJ, because of the passing and court vision.
Peanut butter, mayo and mustard sandwich with a glass of milk. Comfort food.
I think UCF may be 1st by next year. Steadily closing the gap. 4 of top ten in the state of Florida.
Tulane 1981 in the Superdome.
Lost 48-7 to Tulane!!!!!!
Left just after halftime because I couldn't take anymore misery.
Amazing that they didn't fire Stovall for 2 more years. Should have fired him that night.
Was just driving by on Perkins and saw the truck. Being from N.O. I had never had a chance to try it. Had heard about them and wanted to try it but never knew where they would be. Came on TD to post and found already posted. Shoulda checked here first and then I would have been sure to get here. Good burger and great fries. Had the Brian. They are closing up right now.
the Gambit website linked on an older post about Pancho's closing has a comment about how they are reopening in Metairie with the old style pancho's, not a buffet.

Pancho's in Metairie closed

Don't know how long it has been closed, and search in this board did not show anything recent.

Drove by today and sign says, This location has closed permanently. How things have changed since it reopened to long lines.

210/182/180

Just reporting in. Last report 2 months ago was 210/179/180. I have been maintaining basically 180-185 just doing the same thing. Work out, eat right, and cheat on special occasions with no guilt.

I have been keeping up with all of my fellow puttadaforkdowner's. Keep up the good work and remember when you reach your goal, don't let it get away from you again. All the hard work is worth it for me because I feel so much better this way.

Great job Hulk. I think we can safely say that 300 is in your rear view mirrow. You are inspiration to everyone on this thread that if you stick with a program, results will come. It may take longer than you want and you might plateau for a while, but stick with it and the weight will come off.

Hulk, great job man, I knew you could do it. Looks like you are in one of your lose cycles, the weight has been dropping off the last couple of days.

I think the 6 ounce cans are on sale right now 2 for $3.59, which works out to be $4.79/lb. I might have to try the Bold Habanero BBQ.
Late 50's when dad started listening to LSU on the radio. Then in 1960, a cousin from Kaplan went to play for the Tigers. I never considered going to any other school. After some delays, I graduated in 1978. Back in the day, we didn't need student tickets. We just lined up and used our student ID for general admission. If you went early, you could get a seat on the 45 yard line. Dems was the good ole days (except no championships after 58 until now).

re: Anyone here have a Keurig?

Posted by KaplanTiger on 10/12/11 at 7:13 am to
You don't have to buy the individual pods if you didn't want to. Buy one of the refillable cups that allow you to put your own blend in.

This

I don't use my wife's Keurig very often because I usually drink coffee only in the morning. My wife however, drinks only decaf and likes a fresh cup in the evening. The Keurig that I bought her has been used so much, she is wearing it out and I might have to buy her a new one. She has already worn out one of the refillable K-cups.

210/179/180.

Busted thru the last barrier. The low weight is after spinning at lunch and not having anything to eat since last night. This is typical for me, I don't eat anything for breakfast except 3 cups of coffee. I'm sure that the weight goes back up after eating lunch (a salad) and rehydrating. I don't care, that is what the scale said at one point in time. Now the goal is to keep it around 180, give or take a few pounds. I will periodically give updates and of course encouragement and support for every one of our hard working PUTTADAFORKDOWNERS because I could not have done it without youse guys/gals.

re: Lets talk Chili.

Posted by KaplanTiger on 10/11/11 at 10:49 am to
I agree with some of the more rational posters on this thread, that it is all good if it is what you like. I like chili made with ground meat and I also like it made with chunks as a chili stew. With tomatos or not, with beans or not, what is important is the flavors of the overall product. As I may have said before, I grew up on a rice farm. That means I usually eat my chili over rice. The picture of that chili stew with mexican rice sure looked appetizing to me. Now if I want chili for a hotdog, I prefer ground and no beans. If I was at a chili cookoff and Powerman brought his chunky chili, I would certainly help him eat it (if some rice was available).

210/181/180.

My last post update was 3 months ago at 183. Since then I have been mostly in maintenance around 185. Sometimes as high as 190 and other times as low as 182. I am fine with that weight even though I feel I can lose a little more. I would like to get my maintenance weight more around 180. Sometimes under, sometimes over. The new low today of 181 is encouraging towards that goal.
