Paleo/primal eating doesn't allow for legumes. Maybe in small doses but when I have hummus I can't stop myself from being a perfect display of pure gluttony.

I see, there is definitely science behind each diet and something like beans may throw the chemistry off.

the idea behind it is that beans have to be processed before you can eat them. Also, I found this:

quote:

Legumes, just like grains, contain lectins and other compounds that were developed by plants to fight off insects. These lectins increase intestinal permeability and may trigger your immune system to turn against your own body, leading to autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, lupus and vitiligo, according to Dr. Loren Cordain. One of the world's leading experts on Paleolithic diets, Cordain is a member of the faculty of the department of health and exercise science at Colorado State University, and author of "The Paleo Diet."

Believe me, I know. I could sit with a huge bowl of it and a spoon and just live in perfect harmony for a while. I don't think I can ever get enough of the stuff.

haven't posted since 5/3/12. On that day, I was 218/182.8/175. Haven't dieted or really exercised much at all in the last month. Started a new job and just had a lot going on. Luckily, I'm still at 182.5. I was hoping to get down to 175 or so by July. But, I just have no motivation to be strict on my diet and to exercise.

That's pretty interesting info Hulk. Thanks
Slack you know you need to get back in the saddle if you want to burn off those last few pounds. I'm virtually at the same weight/goal. The good thing is that it appears once you reach that goal it will be easy for you to maintain.

+3 after a vacation centered around food and wine, not bad I guess. Getting back on track and very strict, hoping to be around 240 for the 4th.

I'm kinda settled right here but I'm not really upset about it or anything. I'm two months into this and it makes sense that I would plateau a bit, plus my eating hasn't been as good lately. I figure I'll bust out of this pretty soon. This is easily the longest I've ever stuck to a diet\workout plan and most of what I do is so natural now that it's not a problem.

Been a while since I posted last, but there hasn't been much to report. Doing the low carb thing was a HUGE fail for me. I didn't take enough time to look and see what actually has carbs and what does not. I'd lose during the week, and gain it right back over the weekend

So I'm off that bandwagon, and back on Weight Watchers old points system. That's how I lost 25lbs 4 years ago, so I'll have another dance with the one that got me here. Been counting points for about 10 days, and I made it through the first weekend with no measurable gains- 191/185.5/170. 185.5 is the lowest I've gotten on this round of dieting, so I think this is what I should have been doing all along.

193 today..way up from my low of 185 a couple weeks ago but considering how bad the last few days have been i'm ok with it. apparently the gf missed me so the term 'overindulge' comes to mind to capture what i've been doing for the last 3 days

bad cad. time to get serious and get back into the high 180s again. i have to do THIS MONSTER on saturday and i'm not looking forward to it with extra pounds.

to give you some idea of how long this climb is..that small little bump around 50 miles is the legendary 'deals gap' which includes 318 switchbacks. thats the 'small climb'. :\

No doubt. I've been eating better for most meals. we've been eating so much better over the last 10 months since my daughter has started eating real food. So, hopefully we'll continue the trend of not wanting our kids to eat junk and we'll keep eating healthy.

Though, I have eaten 3 or 4 Raol hamburgers in the last 4 weeks. Good thing is that as long as I eat healthy for most meals, a few outliers a week aren't going to have a big impact.

Been lurking this thread for a 2 months. Stopped smoking and started working out April 2nd. Started to watch my eating but have really stepped it up in the last 2 weeks. Trying the Paleo lifestyle and trying to watch the amount of sodium intake.
Working out has definalty helped motivate my eating ahbits and helped me stopped smoking. I go to the the Gym every morning at 6 am and work out for an hour before I go in to work. I have learned alot from the people in this thread and hope to be able to give back myself.
