PSA: Another one with buyer's remorse over a POS grill

I noticed a lot of people buying grills, smokers, etc, and I would just say, a grill doesn't have to be expensive, but don't buy a big, shiny grill because it's heavy and has more burners, BTUs, bells and whistles, and seems to be a better value than the smaller, more modestly equipped grill that costs more.
Do your research, ask knowledgeable people, and know your needs - what you like to cook and how many are you cooking for? What works for your cousin may not work for you. Spend a little extra, if you have to.
That is all I have to say about that.
On another subject: This was offered up for free in my neighborhood, this weekend. The owner says it is good for scrap metal. He got a Weber Genesis to replace this, and wishes he had bought the Genesis instead of the scrap metal a few years back.

Nah, it's Char-Broil. The owner is not going to buy another one any time soon. He was flabbergasted over how quickly it started having problems.

Funny you folks mentioned those two. Those are the two grills in my arsenal. I have a kettle (performer) that I bought a year ago when I moved to Indianapolis. I bought a Spirit II E-210 6 weeks ago that had been deeply discounted by Lowe's.
I don't expect that I'll have to buy another grill for a long time.
I will say that the Slow n Sear and BBQ Guru temp control unit have been very worthwhile additions to my kettle...

I wouldn't buy a chimney starter from Char-Broil. Since 95% of my grilling is for 2-4 people, the Weber Spirit 210 is perfect. I've had it 8 years, replaced knobs, heat deflectors, and burner tubes and it is like new.
I have a Kamado Joe for long smokes and searing, I can do anything.

Funny this comes up, we just purchased a house where the previous owner left a big huge Master Forge modular outdoor kitchen, granite counter tops, sink, refrigerator, burner top, grill, etc. From what I can tell quickly hooking it up a couple of the burners on the grill don't work, the side burners are practically uncontrollable, the refrigerator doesn't work, and it's got some rusting issues despite being covered. Lowes discontinued them due to quality issues but someone at some point probably coughed up around $4000 for this thing and it's already just about junk.

Webers are more expensive, but with general care they'll last a while. I've had my Weber gas grill 18 years now, and the only things I've had to replace are the flavorizer bars, though the burners could use a change. I've noticed it doesn't get as hot as it used to, nor does it heat up as quickly.

Simply don't buy gas grills. Pretty simple

Everything is really easy to replace as well. It took me all of 5 minutes to put the new tubes in place. I took out all the insides of the grill (grates, burners, bottom catch pan) and Pressure washed all the build up gunk out of it.

This! I bought a really nice charcoal grill/smoker from Goodwood Hardware 15 years ago and it’s still going strong. I replaced the gratings (grilling surfaces) this year but that’s the only repair that I’ve had to make on it.

On my 2nd weber in 18 years. The other one would have kept working, but I wanted a burner upgrade. They really are great grills.

They are very difficult to grab but usually at the end of the year and into January, Lowes will put their in-store only stock Webers on clearance at about 70%.

Have a 20 year old Weber spirit that has sat outside at beach condo exposed to salty sea air.
Have replaced the grates and burners twice, both free replacements from weber.

Great deal. My E-210 was missing the igniter and grease trap. It also had a small dent in one of the shelves. $40 bucks in parts and it was working perfect.

I purchased this model Lion Grill in 2012. 308 steel and it still looks this great. Finally after 8 years I'm going to replace the grates. That's it except for yearly cleaning. No other grill I've owned has come close to lasting as long and looking as good as this grill.
