There's a convenience factor and memory making component that I think weighs in on the price...it's a pretty cool concept.

Plus the experience factor. Sitting there watching him prepare it, picking his brain on how to do stuff, etc.

It's was a chef's table style dinner. My stove is on my island, so he faced us as he cooked it.

It wasn't a pre-packaged, ready to serve meal. All he did was the prep earlier that day.

Funny thing, when I started the other topic when I was thinking about doing this, people were saying it would be expensive, laughing at my $300-400 for two couples. They were saying $1000+

Because they were anticipating a much more eclectic menu.

I don't think anyone is saying that you didn't get a cool experience or good food; but that you could have paid MUCH less for that particular experience.

You do you, playboy.

For $120 but I damn well better be getting something I can't cook myself. Not some bacon wrapped shrimp and a steak. I better be getting some true top grade wagu beef or a delicacy I can't readily find somewhere.

I agree with you in principle on this. I could make every one of those dishes without glancing at a recipe, minus the dessert which I would need measurements. And I sure as hell would have plated it better, or at all.

And that’s not me saying I’m an amazing cook. I’m mediocre at best. It’s just a very simple menu.

But be realistic. You’re not getting wagyu beef as part of a six course meal for $120. Hell, you’re not getting wagyu beef by itself for $120.

He did propose an original meal that was a lot more exotic, but my wife is not very adventurous, so we went with this.

If it was just me, I would have told him not to tell me what he was bringing.

Cool experience but that price seems high.

Looks like more prep work than actual cooking

Then he should have lowered the price.

There are a couple of chefs here in FW that I really respect. And, they will come to your house to cook, however...the old oil money here has priced them WAY out of my league. Damn rich people.

The key is to just become friends with good chefs and they’ll invite you over to their house and do it for free.

At least that’s what we’ve been doing.

This was not a throw together dinner. I've eaten at many fine restaurants, and this was better than any $150+ dinner for me and my wife we had at those restaurants.

I’m sure it tasted fine. No one is arguing with you there. It’s just very...basic. For lack of a better word.

And I don’t mean “basic” in the annoying way teenage girls say it. It’s just a very simple menu that isnt difficult for anyone who is even remotely familiar with a kitchen to execute.

It’s your money, and if you enjoyed it that’s all that matters at the end of the day. But I’ve spent less than $120 on tasting menus that were far more advanced and complex than bacon wrapped shrimp, a salad, and a steak.

And honestly, the guy could have a least tried to plate it properly for you for $120 a person. He just slapped that shite on the plate like he was a line cook at Chili’s.

You sure do seem worked up about what another man paid for dinner. He had someone cook a nice dinner for a few people at his house and all he had to do was provide space. Basic menu? It is HIS menu and what they wanted to eat. Just what differently would you have done to be more “exotic” or advanced and complex? So you wouldn’t pay that per head. Just what would you pay for that menu?

I can make everything on that menu as well. Cheaper? Sure. But to be able to once in awhile watch someone do it for me while I can sit, enjoy my wine and the fellowship around me has a value. And that value is priceless.

So why do you care so much what another man does with his money? You seem petty and cheap and probably use 120 month Ford Motor Credit as a wealth builder.

Good job Antique. I’ll have dinner with you anytime. We can throw some corn on the cob in there and make it $140.00 a head just to piss everyone off.

I’m sorry, you’re right. I shouldn’t discuss my opinions about food on the food and drink board. My bad.

And I did say that it was his money and if he enjoyed the meal that’s all that mattered.

FWIW I have no idea what a Ford Motor Credit is, but it sounds fancy.

To be fair, you do seem pretty worked up about his simple opinion

Or maybe you could have put that money towards a decent hotel in New York for you and your daughter rather than looking at cash only places or Airbnbs in Harlem.

Yeah, that’s commenting on food on a food board.

You didn’t answer the question. What would you pay for that menu? And exactly who would you get to come cook it at your home for your said price?

He didn’t get ripped off. WTF do you guys think it would cost to have a professional come to your venue and custom cook a meal, serve it and clean up?

Do you think that can be done for minimum wage? And this reply is directed to all those shitting on the price paid, not just one.

Eh, maybe that comment was a bit dickish. Fair enough. Although for context you should peruse the seemingly endless number of threads he’s started on the Travel Board about that.

As to your questions, I guess the most honest answer is I don’t know. For a menu like that, I’d honestly prefer to just get the ingredients and cook it myself. So it’s hard to quantify the cost of having someone do it for me.

As for who, I don’t know who Chef Jeremy Coco is, nor do I have an issue with him. He seemed to cook everything fine based on the photos, but the plating could be better. I suppose any chef that knows how to cook bacon wrapped shrimp and steak would do. You don’t exactly need Wolfgang Puck in the kitchen to execute it properly. Which is kind of my point.

I didn't say ripped off, just said absurd.

He obviously enjoyed it so the price was worth it.
