One bite is the inside joke. He always takes a couple bites and an extra one or two if he is deciding b/w a 7.9 or 8.1 for example. He never gives a rookie score of a 7 or 8.
His rankings. Anything in the 9s is best in the country. I think there might be 10 or so pizzas that landed in the 9s. 8s are top tier. 7s are very solid pizza. 6s are very basic. The mid city pizza looked like shite. Lucky to even get a 6.8

Seemed like he may have wanted to go lower, but gave the 6.8 because of the sad story behind Mid City with the original owner dying.

He didn’t say a whole lot in the review. He tasted it and was like eh 6.8

Pizza D, he went on and on about. I thought it was gonna get over the 8.0 mark. Maybe 8.1-8.3 considering how he was raving about it.

Mid City looked like shite honestly

Never had either. What’s the consensus on whose got the best pizza in Nola?

What pizza would dave like in Lafayette? I can’t think of any except bread and circus and it’s now closed.

It's a decent run of the mill neighborhood type pizza place, but I'm not sure I'd put it in the top 10 in the area.

Of course, I'm someone who can appreciate several different styles of pizza and will seek those out before something like Mid City (because it's maybe 4-5 best of it's style).

I don't know much about this Portnoy guy and his pizza reviews, but it seems he only gravitated toward NY style pizza here. Is that all he typically goes for?

None, IMO

Central Pizza is probably our best pizza, but it's just okay.

Even B&C wasn't his style, but I agree that it was easily the best pizza in Lafayette.

His favorite is coal fired pizza, New Haven style. But yes, he also gravitates towards New York style, too.

I actually think he may like the pizza from Deanos if he had it. Its closer to the styles he likes.

Does he give out ratings of 9 or more?

Very rarely. 20 places in the country have 9 or above.

General consensus has always been Pizza D which he reviewed and really really liked.

Lately, the hype has been on NOLA Pizza Co inside the NOLA Brewery, which he also went to. I imagine he will release that review soon.

Agreed. Whatever he had doesn't look like their normal pizza, had a small or something. Not sure why the owner gave him that as an example, but maybe the taste isn't that different.

He does like bar/tavern style also but yeah Neapolitan’s never score well with him which is one thing I agree with him on

Listen, I like Diversion. But it's nowhere near an 8.

I personally don't rate Zee's or PD or NOLA that high. I'd have them in the lower 7s. He gave my personal current favorite (Fiori's) a 7.8, and I think it's much better - not just a little bit, but much better - than anything in NOLA. He generally prefers a very light, thin, almost cracker-y crust.

They brought him a single slice afterwards. He said if he had got that slice originally it likely would have been 7.9 or an 8.

I’d put Diversion in the 8’s, their pizza sauce, cheese and crust are all top notch and it’s easily one of the best tasting pizzas around. Portnoy would probably rate it in the mid-high 7’s on taste alone. I could see him deducting a little for it being extra cheesy and the crust isn’t as crisp as what he likes.
