I don't hate dogs. Had a Mastiff for 12 years. I loved that dog, but wouldn't assume that others wanted to eat lunch within 20 feet of him.

That's a sweet looking puppy who can come to my establishment, anytime, but let's watch the language in front of the puppy and the women, please. That's a turnoff.

I wouldn't bring my dog to a strait up restaurant. Most of these bars are so funky and infested with rodents is bringing a dog really gonna make it any worse.

Oh, and ignore poop. It's only meant to be scooped.

Exactly. I'm not talking about bringing my dog to any ole place I can get away with. Here in BR, people only bring their dogs to places that are well-known as being dog friendly. And they're only allowed outdoors here. (In Bulldog, you can grab a beer or pay your tab with the dog, but you can't sit at a table and hang out inside with it)

I feel like if people are going to go to a place that is known for being dog friendly and sit outdoors where the dogs are and get upset over an old dog laying on the ground doing nothing, they're being ridiculous. I don't bring my dog to restaurants because she is young and hyper and would never just lay there.. but I wouldn't be a bitch about going to the Bulldog patio and there being dogs. The place is advertised as that kind of place.

If the establishment welcomes dogs, then those who have dogs are welcome to bring them there. Those who don't want to eat or drink near dogs should stay away. It's a very simple concept and the owners of the businesses have made that decision. Talk to the owners if you want them to change their ways, but if you don't like being around dogs in that situation, there's a real easy answer. Of course, attempting to reason with stupid people is a waste of time.

I love dogs. Own some fine ones. But why someone would want to bring a damn dog into a public establishment is beyond me.

Because the bar owners that allow dogs don't give a shite if you drink in their bar or not. It's better business for them to allow dogs.

BTW, Rendezvous Tavern on Magazine is dog friendly.

People that own dogs are too dependent on an animal and feel the need to bring it places it shouldn't be.

So why the public outrage over bars that allow smoking? If you don't like smoke, don't go to the bars that allow it. No need to pass laws banning it; just don't go.

I don't smoke and I agree with this 100%, and I think it's great there are many places to go that are now smoke free.

Spoonie I would avoid Magazine between Louisiana and Jackson (prob the best blocks of the strip) all bars and most restaurants with outdoor sitting allow dogs, just about every neighborhood dive bar in the city, and without a doubt avoid the FQ during the 1st Sunday of Mardi Gras b/c there is a dog parade that seems to be turning into a festival now with the redevelopment of Armstrong Park. I would sugguest you try Applebees' bar b/c they do not allow dogs, that is unless of course there is somebody there with a disablity who truly is dependent of their service dog. Hope this topic helps you out with your bar habits.

ETA: I don't make the laws

What's so laughable about it?

People are claiming dog "haters" are miserable and mad people.

I'm claiming what dog owners are.

Health concerns and general annoyance . Especially for employees. But to the point, more and more bars are banning smoking even though they are not required to by law. Their customers have spoken.

Not the same with dogs. Most people don't mind them if they're well behaved.

No. Just lacking in psychological development and well being.
