Why would you want to take your dog to a bar though?

Your defensiveness is quite the social phenomenon.

Nice spring day. You take your dog to the park or for a walk and decide a beer or cocktail would be nice about now, so you saunter on over to a dog friendly bar, park yourself and your dog on the patio with other friends and dog owners and socialize. It's fun and relaxing and enjoyable for some folks. Bar owner is happy because he's got more customers than he might have according to his experience. Pretty simple stuff, to me.

Oh, and since the dog knows the way home, you're safe there, too.

This sounds the same as how you dress to eat. For some reason, people get bent out of shape over what people wear out to eat. Seems like their issue should be with the owner, not the patron.

I agree. I'd rather not see anyone's private body parts during the meal, but otherwise, I don't care what people are wearing where I'm eating. I'll wear what I think is appropriate and enjoy myself just fine. Some folks are bothered by people wearing jeans where those folks think jeans shouldn't be allowed. If it ruins their meal, they should not go to those places. It's the prerogative of the owner to allow or disallow whatever s/he wishes. Take it up them.

It's your prerogative to choose to give an establishment your business. It's the owner's prerogative to run it as s/he wishes. Find places where you and the owner have a meeting of the minds. Otherwise, suck it up.
