One more reason why you should never buy meat at Rouses in BTR close to Highland.

Had to stop there as last resort and will never again. The entire meat section was not even cold. Blood was pooling up inside containers, meat was turning brown and fricking flies were buzzing around. The pic of turkey has mold growing inside. I told a worker there and they seemed to give two fricks.
Never again man this place is a joke.

That sucks.

I can't figure Rouses out. The ones around here are pretty good, but I hear from a lot of people how bad they are in other places.

Someone I know was a manager at a small store that they purchased. He was asked to stay on with them, but quit after 3 months because he said they were horrible to work for and didn't know what they were doing.

This is disappointing to hear. There is one being built in close proximity of my house that will open this fall. Fingers crossed that this one will be one of the good ones.

New Orleans Rouses are great, every BR location sucks. I refuse to buy meat from the one in Gonzales, Prairieville, Dutchtown area, BR as I've had bad experiences

I have heard from some people in the industry that the quality of their meat really downgraded when they switched food distributors several years ago. When I am looking for meat, I will go to an AG store or Whole Foods.

When Rouses first started their little takeover of the world I said that was bad news because they sucked, and that LeBlancs was 10000000x better. I got ran off the board.

That has to be part of the issue too. It seems very unlikely to expand as rapidly as they have and maintain the quality for which they are supposedly known. Everyone I know in Ascension is eagerly trashing all the Leblanc's stores that have turned into Rouse's.

I've only had 2 issues with Rouses as far as their meat department is concerned over the past several years of buying there.

The first was I once got a double bag of pork butts and when I got them home and got ready to fix one and freeze the other, I noticed it smelled off. I brought it back and had them open the one they swapped it out for and it was fine.

The other time it was only about the quality of their own brand of hot sausage. Whoever was in charge of making it really screwed up the recipe and it was not even close to hot sausage. It actually had very little in the way of flavor.

Now I make my own sausages and am much happier.

The one in Mandeville is great. Good food and really nice staff. I shopped there yesterday and bought a bunch of sliced deli meats and cheeses. Lady behind he counter was competent and friendly.

I've got a friend who does commercial fridge work for big grocery chains in Houston. He tells me horor stories about what he sees in the meat sections and what chains to avoid. HEB and Kroger are mostly safe though.

It turns out we were 100% correct. Rouses is horrible in every way. The one in Pville by the house stopped carrying a lot of the brands that made me love LeBlancs.
Rouses
I stopped at the Highland location in a rush to get to the camp on Friday. The house brand deli turkey was so dry I couldn't swallow it with a ton of mayo on a sammich, and they stopped storing my beer in the cooler.

The one on Jewban is fine. No probability of drive-bys as well.

I have said it before about Rouses but I will say it again. Wal-mart is a better option for meat in the Baton Rouge area than Rouses. I agree about the one in Mandeville being fine and I have never been to the N.O. one but BR area ones are mostly awful. When you can say Wal-mart is better than fill in the blank....you need to avoid it at all costs and that is me at this point.

Very strange how well they seem to do everywhere except the Baton Rouge area

I wonder if it’s under a different district manager or maybe uses a different supplier
