What are your food preferences? If it's good original Mexican, try Rosario's (several locations), or if you can't decide, why not go to the Riverwalk and graze at several of the restaurants as you sip margaritas and meander along the riverwalk - hint - it's going to be HOT so stay hydrated enjoy

The barn door. Or at least make a reservation for their speakeasy and have after dinner drinks. It’s incredible.

If you eat on the Riverwalk go to Boudros and get the guac.

I'll second this. Best restaurant on the River Walk.
Also, Dough Pizzaria Napoletana was excellent

good choice. The chef there used to work in somewhere in Nola too, maybe for Besh. Also the bar at Hotel Emma is a must.

When I lived in SA, my favorite restaurant was Paesanos.

When I was stationed at Ft. Sam Houston, we would catch a bus toward town. Just outside the gate, there was a liquor store and a Church's Fried Chicken. That was usually as far as we got. We'd buy a few bottles of wine and a big box of Church's, then catch a bus back to the company area, sit on the back lot behind our barracks and drink cheap wine and eat Church's.
Yes, it was a culinary delight. I still get a headache the next day when I eat Church's.

Boudros for the Shrimp and Grits.

I agree with the Boudro's recommendation. They don't know how to spell, but they know how to cook.

do a margarita crawl at the Pearl. Start at the Hotel Emma Bar. Eat apps at each place you stop. get a cab or uber back to wherever you are staying.

I think Boudrou's is still closed for Covid. At least it was when I was there two weekends ago.
Iron Cactus was a solid meal. Since there weren't many choices, we ate there two nights in a row. The Tortilla Soup and thePescado Del Mar were delicious.
The second night, I had the Steak fajitas for another solid meal.
