a-bears in new iberia is one of the few places that has that old style burger still. even still comes wrapped in a few sheets of that thin white porous paper that sucks up the grease. No fancy bun or other bullshite.

Solid looking burger there, not a lot of BS and straight to the point

That looks about right. Griffs in Ruston has what I consider an old fashion hamburger

Riverside Patty off of Siegen makes one too.

Not unless you like one well done. If you get there while they are busy, you'll get a crispy critter.

What comprises an "Old Fashioned" burger? The patty must be hand formed, this creates the uneven surface so you get an exterior with more flavor. The bun must be fresh and firm enough that it doesn't fall apart. Good green lettuce, not white and flavorless, fresh tomatoes at their peak, no 'pink tennis balls'. A selection of cheeses, not processed cheese food. The rest, grilled onions are nice, pickles and choice of condiments.
Add-ons such as bacon, mushrooms if you like.
My favorite in BR is Curbside, I always stop across the street at Woodhaven Furniture, lots of cool stuff and my buddy Joel Davis.

Two places near me I like to go to get burgers if not inclined to grill my own.
Beachcorner on Canal right before the cemeteries when heading toward City Park Ave. from downtown.
The other is Oscar's on Metairie Rd. not far past Bonnabel if heading toward Causeway.
Both places serve a big burger, well cooked and quite tasty.

cottons in lake charles still serves old fashion style hamburgers, if you are passing through it is an awesome burger.
i still think though that Calla makes the best burger in LC because they use awesome ingredients and the best quality beef i have seen in a restraunt burger.
as far as quality of beef being better back then....yes beef was a better quality back then. much cheaper and the ground beef was made from better cuts and the cows were treated much better back then.
as far as everything else....i think other ingredients are better now mainly due to ability to ship easier.

I remember it well. The bbq was good as well.

there were alot less overall steak cuts so more of what we consider good steaks now went into ground beef
example- flank, chuck eye, skirt, flat iron, hanger etc

Not even the best burgers in LP. Minor League Pub smash burger wins that honor hands down.

I cant go back that far but I remember Dearman's being a pretty solid old fashioned burger back in the 80's. Havent been in years but heard it went to shite later.

If you are downtown around 3rd street for lunch check out Downtown Seafood. Very good burger.
Their seafood plates are great also. They change the oil in the fryers often.
ETA: Have not been there in a couple years so hope Henry is still the owner. If so, go for it.

2 things that people will always claim:
1. Things that no longer exist were way better than their modern counterparts.
2. Things that have been around a while were way better back in the day.
I conclude that the only way to stick around as a business is to get worse over time.
