I am an Old Charter fan....but it is gettIn harder to find. I have half a handle of Old Charter Aged 8 Years and a fith of Old Charter Aged 10 years.

For Christmas my family got a half gallon of Old Charter 8 - we cracked it open tonight for the game - it is not drinkable - but there is a huge difference....

....when I examed the label it just has "8" on it - the older bottle has "Aged 8 Years".

Did I get a bad bottle or is this 8 stuff just crap?

Also, what is your go to replacement for Old Charter Aged 10 Years??

TIA.

Look into Buffalo Trace, probably the best bourbon you can buy in that price range.

Old Charter was sold as an 8 year old bourbon until January 2014, when Buffalo Trace rebranded it as Old Charter 8 while keeping its pricing the same. A class action lawsuit was filed in NY last year that complained of false or misleading labeling.

The big demand for Bourbon has resulted in a number of such maneuvers by distillers.

There have been a couple of long threads on here discussing it.

It is currently on very limited release, the chance of finding any is very, very slim in a store...

This happened with Elijah Craig 12 yo. Now a no age statement. Not bad, but not as good as the original 12yo. not sure the price of Old Charter but Evan Williams and Old Grandad bib are very good and reasonably priced. I also like Evan Williams Single Barrel.

Can you take a pic of the bottle? I don't think you're getting the Charter of the past.

Charter 12 was probably the best readily available bourbon you could get before the bourbon boom of the past 20 or so years.

What's out there now isn't nearly like what was previously produced. I'm still lamenting the loss.

Well that's depressing to know now. My dad was/is a Charter drinker and I reemeber seeing the infamous 12 year when he "splurged". I like the "Charter" that's out now, it's my go to all day drinker bourbon.

I see metion of Weller, is this a good bourbon to drink on for extended periods? I like to keep a handle of something like that on deck at all times.

I bought what I thought was a good supply when all this broke a couple of years ago....

.....i underestimated my drinking ability.

This new charter 8 stuff was simply a tease.
