Enameled cast iron. Pick your brand and pricing point. Lodge, Tramontina, Creuset, Staub, whatever floats your boat.

Like hungryone said, get an enameled iron one. I have a Le Creuset I got as a gift and I love it. But I really don't know that you have to have a Creuset or Staub or what not. Just get a good rated cast iron enamel.

What do you want to use it for and how many do you need to serve?

We used the Sam’s version of enameled cast iron for about 5 years, $40. It started to crack. My wife found a Le Creuset at Marshall’s one day and we’ve used it since. I do believe in this case you get what you pay for. The Creuset is about 5 years old and looks brand new. The sams version will do the job, just not long term. There is the whole TVM thing to consider too.

What's your budget and what size would you like? What do you want to cook with it most often?

If I'm frying fish, is there anything wrong with enameled? I was thinking about getting a bigger straight cast iron for frying fish outside, but there's no reason to not just get something multi purpose and go enamel right?

Following this. I need one for indoor use. The one I have for cooking in coals gets the Cinderella treatment and doesn't get to come inside and hang with her sisters.

For frying fish outside, I'd likely get a cheap wide straight CI dutch oven. The cheaper enameled versions probably wouldn't hold up well to that long term. Those that would be wide enough to be able to fry a decent amount of fish without overcrowding would have a lot of hot and cold spots when using indoors on a stove top. Hot spots aren't an issue when there's a lot of liquid or grease in the pot, because liquid is more conductive than any metal, but are a big problem when browning meat because you'll end up with some spots burned and some hardly browned.

I have a lodge that I get a lot of use out of

If you're going to go into the higher end price range get Staub

I bought an Amazon basics one and that one is surprisingly good

I got a 6.5 Qt enameled cast iron D.O. at Target for $35(?). I wouldn't get anything less than 7 QT. Check Amazon

Won't be helpful to you, but Home goods carries a lot of Le Creuset and I've seen Staub discounted at Nordstrom Rack.

My wife loves her Le Creuset. Always buys either on sale or at outlet. We got a $300 pot of a discontinued color for less than $100 at the outlet in New Orleans.

Never pay full price.

Check out your local Home Goods store. They have a bunch of different brands of pots at good prices.
