Dumb question- I have a Lodge cast iron pot that I use for cooking rice & gravy dishes.

How is enamel for browning meat? Can I get a good stick with enamel?

I almost exclusively use my dutch oven for browning meat

Absolutely. It's great.

The only knock I have on Lodge is that their pots are too small.

I got my dad's Le Creuset after he passed away. (Two actually, one large and one small.) I never knew I wanted one before. I had no opinion on the subject. If my sister didn't already have one then I'm sure I wouldn't have one now. But I use them all the time. I don't know anything about other brands but I couldn't be happier. (With my Le Creuset Dutch ovens, not with my dad's passing, obviously. I'd happily undo that trade if I could.)

Thought you missed the boat on this $99* Staub cocotte? You didn't! We extended the sale to make sure everyone gets a 4QT cutie (in classic black or a very-merry cherry). But hurry…they'll go fast.

I've been cooking with Le Creusets since 197something.

I would warn you, when you want a larger one, to go to the closest outlet and lift some of them. The larger one I thought I wanted I couldn't lift, and that was an attempted lift of it empty. So I adjusted my ideas and went down several sizes, took the lid off and tried lifting with my pocket book in it to the height it would have to go to for my upper double oven. The lid can always go on separate, and I'd almost swear the lid weighs as much as the bowl.

My objective was for making big pots of soups and gumbos and letting them mature in a low and slow oven.

The 13.25 is a heavy sob. My green one only moves from lower cabinet to stove to sink to lower cabinet.
