ways and means in Huntington Beach. just shared oysters with the kid. it's a very large space overlooking the Pacific Ocean. it was a Friday afternoon and there was probably 20 people in the entire restaurant - not a good sign. our server was from new Orleans and had just moved to California to live with his girlfriend so that was kinda cool

Sofia on Julia St.

Pizza was great, gnocchi solid, was not a fan of the risotto, service could have been more prompt...but the owner came by and talked to us for a while and gave us free limoncello, so that was nice.

I’ll go back for sure.

Does new ownership count? If so, Middendorf's.

Also, LUVI Restaurant

The Francis. Overall, it was pretty good. Reminded me a lot of Roux 61.

I’ve eaten at the following new (to me) places in the last couple of weeks: (1) Rodney Scott’s new Birmingham place - very good, (2) Rougaroux - best po-boy I’ve had outside of Louisiana, (3) Mile End Deli - didn’t order well, looked better than what I had, and (4) a Chinese/Indian fusion place in a gas station - fan-freakingtastic.

Al-T’s in Winnie, place is legit, cracklins nothing special, but the food was legit, ate there 4 nights in a row while staying next door for work and got something different every night. First Cajun restaurant outside of Louisiana I’ve ever given a thumbs up.

For years on my frequent Galveston trips, Al-T's was a must, loved the place. Great seafood, chicken fried steak, then one trip it was awful. So what, every place can serve a bad meal, but then so was the next trip, then a really terrible meal, after 5 bad experiences I quit going. The last time was about 4 years ago, please tell me things have changed and they are back to greatness.

Flying Burger & Seafood in Ruston. Had never heard of it, but saw a parking lot full of cars on a Sunday so wheeled in for lunch. Just beat a crowd of Baptists who got let out of church and soon overran the place with clean cut folks.

Big place. They were selling a ton of fried fish, shrimp, etc., po-boys, tacos, and burgers.

I was prepared for bad to average, but it was really pretty darned good. I would return.

Went to Key West a couple of weeks back. Everywhere we dined was new.

Probably best was fish tacos:
