I assume "Michelin spots" for him includes Bibb Gourmand, because there is no way in fricking hell most of the places would come close to a star.

BG, sure.

Said it before and will say it again, Michelin is coming to the south to give out stars. Rocca in Florida is a fantastic restaurant. I eat there 3-4 times a year. It has a star. It wouldn’t sniff a star in Italy. That’s not a knock on Rocca. It’s showing that what Michelin is doing is looking for places to give stars to.

I’d say New Orleans ends up with 2-3 2 stars, and 5-8 one stars. But all depends on rest of the south.

Acamaya and somewhere like N7 could be sleepers when it comes to stars.

I can buy into what blackenedout said, they might not show up and drop two stars and leave. In which case a few places will get stars to fill out a decent list.

If New Orleans and Co put up money for this I would imagine they have an idea their investment will help enough of their members.

I’m sure that’s true, but they are covering a big area, and places like Peche (which I love) and Lil Dizzys etc are obviously not getting Stars.

Another place that has a chance for a star is Nogomi. Really great sushi in an omakase only format.

Well Nagomi was closed for a very long time. They are back open but it seems like only for those in the know. I did go recently

I love them, I think Koz is great, but don't see them being a Michelin level sushi place

Big nope for me. The owner is about as arrogant as they come. Not a good experience there.

Nagomi

I thought the chef went back to Japan after a falling out with the owner or something.

Also agree Michelin is definitely not going to come to New Orleans and give out a star to an omakase restaurant.

He is basically the owner although he did have some funding.

He and his partner that runs front of house made a very bad deal when they first started up with another company (that had nothing to do with ownership). I think they were also wearing thin of the crazy grind. So they closed up shop for awhile. Koz went to Japan for a little bit, Eli did some other stuff.

Deal wore off. They are back but they are not advertising nor on any booking service that I am aware of. You basically have to know them or call and get lucky.

They do not get the level of fish, have the level of service, the bells and whistles etc that is associated with Michelin Stars among Omakase restaurants. No chance. Just look at the list of places in the US that do.

I think Koz has talent on level with many high end sushi places but they don't have the ingredients

To be honest I am not sure they would even want it, as crazy as that is to say.

Yeah that’s the same story I was told by the owner of Yakuza House

I know of the guy they had funding them and he does seem sketchy. Glad they got out of it and are back open on their own terms.

Places like Nagomi are a dime a dozen in any other major city. I don’t think it’s even up to the level of Uchi. I agree with whoever said the level of fish isn’t up to snuff. Speaking of which, Sukeban does some absolutely crazy stuff when they get the ingredients.

McNulty put out a list of 12 possible Michelin spots

Saffron: I could see it.

Brigsten’s: Love the food. Haven’t been in a couple of years, but the last few times I went the bar service and wine selections were below par. And the decor of the place seemed a bit run down. I would expect Clancy’s over Brigsten’s.

There have always been some exceptions. There have been noodle places in asia that are holes in the wall with stars

and taco stands too.

I think New Orleans is mostly too casual for their super fine dining standards but obviously there is some amazing food.

Peche is some of the best food in the city but it’s not that fancy

I read the article, and I think he meant star. He was assuming given some of the places that got it in Texas that some of those places would get it. I do agree that half that list shouldn't get a star, but I think Michelin has really loosened the requirements

Fantastic spot, also very convenient that Bouligny Tavern is next door for pre or post dinner drinks.
