Mateo's Salsa - for the pepper freaks (pic)

This salsa is HOT! I've never had any store bought product (chips, salsa etc.) even come close to this heat level. I don't even remember where I bought it. It's really good but really hot too. Your wife or girlfriend will not like it unless they really like the heat.

I had some a few years ago when I found a bottle on sale for $2. I think it was Mateo's chipotle. It was very smoky and good. The next time I went back, it was $5 a bottle, so I haven't had it since.
I've recently been eating Kylito's, which I can get at Walmart for under $3 without any discounts.

It's got a good kick but it's not that bad. I enjoy it

A $3 difference turned you away from the salsa that you enjoyed?

They were out of medium once at the store so I mixed some mild and extra hot. Mild + extra hot does not equal medium.

Some of you guys don't understand living on a budget. It's both the absolute cost difference and the % difference. Was Mateo's better than Kylito's? Marginally. Was it double the cost better? No way.

I enjoy a little kick, but t I prefer flavor to heat. Heat should compliment flavor and not require a sip of liquid. My own preference.

You can build a tolerance to capsaicin, so people who eat it a lot will take a higher dose to get the same feeling as people who barely eat it.
Was watching a video on it a week or so ago and scientists are finding the people who take it to the extreme, like ghost peppers and higher tend to do it for different reasons based on sex. For women, it triggers more of an enjoyment response in their system and they do it cause they like it. For men, it triggers more of an attention response and they do it for the notoriety of eating the extreme side of peppers.

Mateo's is definitely one of the best store-bought salsas. They have several options. the regular hot (non-habanerno) is our fav.

I just had some in my chili. Have any of y’all ever had Julio’s salsa? Real good, but not sold many places around here. We found it many years ago on deer hunting trips to west Texas, and after many years some of the grocery stores here started carrying it. They also make their on chips, which are awesome
