Man vs Food and the downfall of TFN

Man vs Food with Adam Richman and Good Eats with Alton Brown were two of my favorite shows on TV. Of course, Richman had to quit because of the effect on his health, I guess eating 2,000,000 Scoville peppers isn't good for you. Now, except for Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, all they have are the lame contests.
I have no idea what their ratings are like, but my default channel has been deleted off my favorites.

I’m not sure which is worse; the contest shows or the commercials for the contest shows.
Awful.

Man vs Food with Adam Richman was on The Travel Channel, not The Food Network. It moved to The Cooking Channel for a couple of its last seasons, years after Richman was gone.
But you're right about TFN in general. I used to watch several of their cooking shows, but those are mostly gone, and I don't care about the lame arse game/reality shows.
I find cooking shows now on LPB on Saturday afternoons. Milk Street, ATK, Cook's Country, Pati's Mexican Table, etc.

I think you're correct about that, I'm pretty sure Travel & Cooking all under the TFN umbrella. Thanks for the info on LPB, I'm a member and I didn't think to look.
I used to like gardening shows, now they are all 'Fix the shmucks backyard up in one day' shows.

LPB often runs some legit gardening shows on Saturday mornings.

Let me guess — there’s always some unforeseen obstacle that pops up at the last minute, threatening to keep them from finishing the job on time.

Btwn MVF, Bourdain, and Zimmern...that was the goat lineup.

The Food Network 20-25 years ago was so good.
I haven't watched the channel in years, it seems to be just game shows/challenges.

The evolution of specialized cable channels is one of the oddest phenomena around.
I too wonder who all these inane contest shows on TFN are actually appealing to. I find them completely unwatchable.

All of those themed channels seem to do this over time.
Travel network is nothing but aliens and ghosts/paranormal.
History is nothing but aliens and air disasters.
Food is DDD and game shows.

It's awful now, the only thing worth watching is DDD, the same can be said for the Travel Channel, it's gone so far down hill.

Youtube is now where it's at for actual cooking shows. TFN, as with most cable networks, is garbage sandwiched between ever longer commercials.

Yeah, I watch quite a few different cooking "shows" on YouTube, from traditional cooking, Asian, smoking, etc...

They recycle all of the same chefs too on every competition. All of guys buddies are all they ever have. I still like beat Bobby l, chopped, and GGG cause they are different chefs. While I do like baking, I hate the spring baking competition and any other baking competition they do.
Basically all I will watch anymore is those 3 mentioned.

i remember the day when TFN actually was about cooking and learning to cook.
slowly watching the transition to what it is now over the last 20 years has been painful.
it all competitions and bullshittery now.
at least things like PBS and create still have good cooking content.

I'm watching Fieri's Tournament of Champions right now. About the only thing I watch on there.

me too. I know for the longest time there was no way to watch the complete series other than on airtime. Is it squirrelled away on some service now a days?
