Glad to see this building back in action. Article says they now have an 88 space parking lot on site. Weird that the last owner didn’t buy the property for that.

quote:

In Madisonville, two very different new restaurants share the same roof and the same view along a bend in the Tchefuncte River, one that has long drawn people for a meal, a drink and a perch to look over slow-moving water.

Upstairs, there’s Tchefuncte’s, an upscale restaurant with an elegant bar and a collection of private dining rooms. It is slated to open July 18. Just downstairs, the open-air dockside restaurant and bar the Anchor will debut this Friday, June 26.

Tchefuncte’s and the Anchor occupy different ends of the dining spectrum, from ambitious to anytime. Together, they hold down the property that was previously known as Friends, a once-humble Madisonville mainstay that saw a brief run in a much larger incarnation.

Another part was adding a new 88-spot parking lot, acquired from an adjacent marina, to relieve parking concerns that had accompanied the previous restaurant here.

Smart.

It is criminal that a successful restaurant hasnt/can't be run in that location.

Is it that hard to serve decent food at a reasonable price?

I hope it works out.

Didn't the former developer kill himself?

It was my understanding that the owners of the adjacent property that would be used for parking asked an astronomical amount it

From the time site plans were drawn, that area by the marina was supposed to be parking. I know because I did the site plans. Not sure what happened as I moved away before construction started.

Sounds like they are trying to replicate what Fishers has in Orange Beach. Hope it works for them.

I hope they do well. It’s sucks to see that building empty considering it’s potential.

I don’t understand the compulsion to make restaurant names possessive. WTF is “Tchefuncte’s”? I get it if your actual name is in the name of the restaurant like Keith Young’s, Morton’s, etc. Otherwise, it’s dumb. And yes, get off my lawn.

I wonder if there will be live music like at T-Rivers?

The mega-mansions across the river will probably squash any live music plans.

In the article it says the downstairs bar will close in the evening as to not disturb the neighbors.

And to prevent the guests from being devoured by mosquitoes. I’ve been chased off of Morton’s porch at dusk by swarms of the pests.

Was involved with the rebuild after Issac. Original owner (who did sadly commit suicide) always had the marina parking as part of the plan. Its a family that owns the marina. He made a handshake deal on the parking with the mother. She passed away right when construction started and the daughters didn't want to give him the parking. He got screwed and had to buy the adjacent house and have it moved off site by barge to create the little bit of parking they had.

Owner who committed suicide was underwater in debt. Took a good idea and blew it up too much. The new owners bought the property for less than half of what the other owner had it in. At those numbers, they should be able to turn a profit and make it work.

Hope it does well. Lot a blood, sweat and tears on the piece of property. Will be good to have that building in commerce again

The extra parking does help, but the bridge traffic for those intersections on 21 is still a pain in the arse if you are coming from Mandeville.

IDK if that traffic bottleneck is problem that can be solved tho.

Man, the old bar at Friend’s interior was perfect for drinking. I miss it.

I imagine this is also to reduce the number of parking spots required by code since the 2 restaurants won't be open at the same time (if I read that correctly)
