How do you guys feel about Oban??

Oban is a great scotch. My trouble is keeping enough of it around.

There are diminishing returns with high end Scotch. I keep the Macallan 12 year around the house, and have a bottle of Mac 15 year Fine Oak I got as a gift that is a little better. I ordered a glass of Mac 25 year for $45 at a bar and didn't care for it very much. My current favorite is Balvanie 12 year Doublewood for $55 to $60. Gonna try the Mac 18 year first chance I get.

Macallan 12 Year Sherry is still one of the best in class.

Yes it’s super popular and not some cool scotch nobody has heard of, but damn fine whisky

It’s been a year or so since I’ve bought a bottle but Rouses off Juban had it for under $300.

Macallan 18 is fine but the quality to price ratio just isn't there for me.

It's good. A lot of restaurants have it relatively cheap. But for the price, I'll take the 12 year.

Watched the Scotch documentary on Netflix a couple nights ago. Seemed like the prevailing opinion amongst master distillers is that agenis overrated and becomes counterproductive after 15-18 years. After that you’re paying more for prestige because the spirit becomes overwhelmed by the character of the barrel.

Obviously there are exceptions. Kind of made sense though.

Walgreen's usually does have one or two bottles in that $200+ price range. It may or may not be Mac 18 but something good. I've often wondered how many years it's going to sit on that shelf unsold. And to be completely honest, I'm only going that high as a gift or stakes in a bet. These things do return to you though.

Truth.

Balvenie, Lagavulin or Ardbeg, and Oban are my favorite three, depending on my mood.
