Had some real burgers with jalapeño and cheddar mixed in in the fridge and ran out to get some groceries earlier, saw them, heard all the hype and got them. Figured why not? Already grilling some stuff for the week so might as well toss them on too.

Open these things and it immediately smells like cat food and old tree leaves. Not a good sign, but hey smell isn’t everything. Cooked them according to the box (3 minutes each side), sat one down next to my real burger. Ate a few bites of my real burger - magnificent. Took my first bite of the Meow Mix burger. Tastes exactly like it smells. I say well don’t judge it on only one bite, took a sip of tea to wash it down. Alright let’s try a second bite. Looks like my dogs are in for a treat (maybe?) tonight.

You should listen to my advice...??

Well, I guess you did and went to Loyal Legion for "real food".

ETA: as good as Modern Times is, they really limit themselves with their vegan menu. Not that it's vegan, but that most of it is fake meat and vegan cheese. Just nasty...

I want my burger made out of dead animals. The vegans can have all of the beyond burgers they want.

I think the point of this for the OP is to warn others to not buy into the hype about Beyond Meat being "just like beef".

Anyone expecting it to taste exactly like a burger will be sorely disappointed. But as an occasional healthy option, I didn’t think it was bad.

Is this the same as the impossible burger, or whatever? I had one of those. It was very fine. It in no way would satisfy my craving for a hamburger. Also it just looked really weird. It wasn’t bad or anything, but it just wasn’t a hamburger. Which is fine. But kinda goes against the marketing.

The only beyond burger I had was fine. It doesn't compare to meat, but I don't expect it to. I've enjoyed Impossible burgers much more.

I've never had a Beyond burger, but I've had an impossible burger and quite liked it. Moreso than I expected. As others have said, it's not as good as a nice, beefy burger, but it works.

I believe I would rather drink non-alcoholic beer than give up my beef.

You had me at cat food. No, really, thanks for saving me the time. I've never had these and think I'll stick with the real deal anyway.

The only veggie burger I've ever eaten that I would consider ordering again was at a burger place called 25 Degrees in Chicago (I think they also have locations in L.A.). That veggie burger was crazy good.

I don’t classify the Beyond Meat and a veggie/black bean burger in the same place anyway. The former is using artificial flavors to attempt to taste like meat, and it ends up just tasting like chemicals. The latter makes a perfectly fine sandwich if it’s done right. Black bean patty with salsa and guacamole is pretty good.

Honestly I’ve yet to find a pasta substitute, meat substitute or dairy substitute that’s as good as the real thing.

I honestly just cut back in the unhealthier things than try and and substitute them all together.

Thx for saving me from a bad experience. Tough around here since the wife went vegetarian/pescatarian, definitely tired of fish tacos.

OP is full of shite, they are made of peas and smell and taste a lot like Peas. If you don't like Peas at all, you won't like them. I have never had a cat, so maybe some cat food smells like Peas I don't know? It doesn't smell like Tuna though.

Of course it doesn't taste like a real burger, its not beef! Lol. I've been trying to shed some weight and eating less meat lately, so they are by no means terrible. I like them with some lettuce as a bun and some fresh tomato and some mustard. By no means a Real Burger, but a solid meal none the less.
