Is there anything you will do differently when this is over?

We've all had to make adjustments in our lives, with all of the businesses closing. Cooking at home, more, eating more carry out food, learning to make your favorite cocktail at home, whatever.

Is there anything that you have learned that you will carry over with you once this is over? Will you still practice some social distancing?

What do you think the effect will be on the long term economy?

Not so much a change, but a validation: my extra fridge, freezer, and pantry overflowing with staples has meant I don’t need to go out to the store. Have been able to cook, freeze, and share with those in need. I knew all that “extra” would come in handy some day.

I'll adjust my subscribe and save for TP back to every 2 months instead of 4

One thing I will do is make sure I keep my pantry full and probably shop for groceries less often. Same with the freezer.

If this does on for months, being near strangers will take some getting use to

My wife and I have been cooking way more unhealthy than we usually do. Really our of sheer boredom. That will have to change soon

Have you thought about the negative impact that will have on our economy?

Cooking worse and eating/snacking way more frequently. It doesn’t help that my ‘office is now my kitchen table, so I pass my fridge/pantry about 9,000 times/day, I’ve got ready access to things I normally wouldn’t have, but need now that kids are home 24/7 like chips and ritz crackers. I also made a LARGE pot of chicken spaghetti that I passed out to family/friends, but kept a big container. It was gone in 24 hours, mostly from my wife and I.

But it has reminded me that I CAN cook every night and we don’t HAVE TO eat out/pick up a couple times a week. Not having after school activities has helped a lot, too

I'm fortunate that our income hasn't been affected. We have shopped at our local market pretty much the same as we always have. We go about every 3-4 days for perishables. We both agreed early on that we would try to keep everything as normal as possible primarily to prevent our kids from worrying unnecessarily.

If there is anything I would do differently, I plan to patronize the local places more often when I can.

Maintain my exercise regimen. Been working out an hour a day to pass some time and feel better. When life goes back to normal I have to keep that hour to workout somehow.

Think I'll do more leisurely walks. Though I exercise regularly, never really appreciated how calming a walk can be.

ETA: Forgot this was FDB On the food side, I am, likely, going to shop a bit more at local markets.

Hopefully not be required to sit my arse in an office for 40 hours a week

ETA: thought this was the OT but still

FDB answer, I have a deep freezer full of deer but still have to go out for veggies and all.. I will try to have a bunch of onions, peppers, etc chopped and frozen next year. Will also make more homemade broths/stocks to freeze too

Probably buy more artisanal breads when given the chance over bagged sliced bread. It just tastes so much better for everythign, toast, sandwiches, snacks, etc.
I've learned that baking bread at home is messy, hard to do correctly as a newbie, and generally not good.

Homemade biscuits are delicious, but man, that shite is unhealthy! Probably won't make those too often.

Also, I'll probably use my freezer more and buy meats on special. We always just went to the store whenever we needed something and didn't use our freezers at all except for meals where we had large amounts of leftovers.

Also, I had the bright idea to chop up and freeze a bunch of onions in a gallon bag. If I would do that again, I'd put them in smaller bags. I didn't think that it would all freeze together into one giant onion block of ice.

We've been grilling/smoking every night, but unfortunately that's not going to be possible when work resumes

I'm sure we'll keep the cupboard full for a couple years, and then get caught totally flat footed next time.
