Is Rice-a-Roni the WOAT way to eat rice?

I absolutely hated it as a kid. It’s flavored weird and also has weird little crunchy things in it. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that it’s a weird cuisine item, since it’s called the “San Francisco Treat”.

I've always had an odd affinity for it, me.
I'm not sure what "crunchy things" you're referencing. There's a "fried rice" version that has bits of almond in it. Is that it?
It's been a while since I had it, since most of my household won't eat it much.

I mean when you're in a time crunch for school night dinner, why the hell not, its fairly cheap. There's more than one flavor offered so maybe you just had one you didn't like. I realize I sound like a Rice a roni fanboi. Honestly, bought my first box of it this past week for the first time, in years. Not great, not terrible but helped me pump out a mid week meal in under 40 minutes, which is a win.
Plus it reminds me of Short Circuit

Ate a lot of Rice-a-Roni and Pasta-Roni in college and shortly after. Pretty decent if you're not an experienced cook.

I like the chicken flavor. I make it once in a great while for a quick small side. I brown it a good bit first.
Maybe the roni part wasn't cooked enough and stayed crunchy. I like the roni.

The vermicelli pastaroni mixed with rotisserie chicken and a handful of frozen peas is not bad. My picky eater daughter survived on that when she was little.

Love it, I use my kid as an excuse to buy it on occasion.

I’m a sucker for rice a roni and those knorr side dish packets. Haven’t had them in years but always thought they were delicious struggle food

I thought I grew up on rice a roni
Found out much later we were too poor, and dad would just spice up white rice

I loved rice a roni in college. Especially the one that also had vermicelli in it. I cringe when I recall making smothered round steak (first attempt) and serving it with rice a roni to my mother, who thought she had come to take me out to lunch. She pretended (barely) it was fine.
I have many cringeworthy memories like this, more as a newlywed, having the audacity to invite people over before I really knew how to do anything. Like clean the kitchen of all the mess I made before they arrived. Oh vey.
I’m sorry, Mom! (RIP)

I like some of those as well. There's a spinach fettuccine one I like.

Some flavors are not bad. I tend to use them in recipes rather than eating them as is.

That brings back memories, good or bad. My mom always paired it with fried pork chops and green beans. Brings 1986 right up to today.

Wait, that stuff is still available?

I used to like their long grain and wild rice when I was young and before I learned how to make rice on my own. It’s not bad, you just have to add a fraction of the oil/butter/fat that the recipe calls for. Just a dab will do.

Note Rice a Roni but a fancy meal in college was the Lipton chicken flavored instant rice and a chicken pot pie.
