When I found out how much my wife was spending at 5 guys I told her to never bring me that again. This was before covid, it was priced ridiculous for what you get.

The only way to order fast food is through the apps and using the specials. I save my points for when the specials suck and I am with a group think wanting to go somewhere. I try to hit the cafeteria as much as possible but sometimes that just doesn't work out.

Stopped a Jimmy John’s a few weeks ago to grab lunch for the wife and I while we prepped for a holiday party.

2 sandwiches, 2 chips, 2 pickles

$27

It’s a joke at this point.

Stop the order and apologize for the inconvenience, because I’m not paying $22 for a burger and fries from a fast food place.

Aren’t the pickles there like $2 each? Same with the chips.

Which Five Guys was this? I’m looking at the Brentwood menu right now. Smallest burger is $7.79. Small fries (530 calories) are 4.99. Regular drink 2.99. Now we’re at $15.77 pre-tax for somewhere in the neighborhood of 1300 calories. A 20% tax rate would still keep you under $19. Did your wife leave a $3 tip?

They have the cheaper items and the $5 box which is a great value.

Yep, I get the cheap shite. Kids used to get cheaper things but now they add to it. Cheesy roll up plus beef, etc. Wife is the expensive one.

Maybe that's why. Haven't ordered one in quite some time but just looked it up. McChicken is $1.79 here. Hot & Spicy is $2.09.

OP is likely confusing it with a regular chicken sandwich, which is close to $5 her., too. McChicken’s are not $4.99 anywhere. They are more expensive in Boston than California, but never more than $3.

Fast food prices are insane, though. Inflation has caused me to slowly phase out all restaurants, which stinks because I love dining out at a variety of places, especially sit down restaurants.. Carry out pizza is the last on my list. Those prices have not gotten as insane relative to fast food and sit down establishments, but even if they did it is just too convenient to give up.

Where? Because that’s not what they charge for those items.

I should not have said never. Yes, if you get Uber Eats in California it will be more than $3. You got me!

There are easy ways to beat the inflation of fast food, I sometimes am stuck where that is my only option.

RULE #1, always have a drink from home and avoid combos, I have an insulated container I fill with tea or water before I leave the house. I can get a double cheeseburger from BK for <$3, even the Popeye's chicken sandwich with tax is $5.50.

RULE #2, read rule #1, I make fast food a rare occasion and never fall for the combo, those fries and soda are crap anyway.

About the only thing we do is Popeye's once every two-three weeks. Wife gets the Two Can Dine for 9.99 on the app. Five pieces of chicken, two sides and two biscuits. Not a bad value.

True story, coming back from a basketball tournament a couple weeks ago we get back in town late. Most everything is closed and we felt like having wings. Only thing available in town was the Pizza Hut wings. Said the hell with it, stop there and we can split an order of 12.

Got my daughter to order on the app from the backseat as we were driving in. Pull up to the window to pay and ask for our order. Gives it to us and she says that'll be 24 dollars. I said that can't be right because we only ordered 12 wings. She said that's right...12 piece wing. Apologized to the nice lady but told her there's no way I'm paying 24 bucks for 12 wings. Said she doesn't blame me. We drove off.
