My sister loved it, and we're from New Iberia, but I was partial to Log Cabin!

Papere was from Abbeville, and we always had a can growing up in Groves, TX. live in Central Texas now, and was browsing HEB a couple of years ago and lo and behold there was a whole row of Steen's. i thought they'd screwed up an order so i bought all 12 of them they had in stock. turns out it's a staple item for sale, but frick it...didn't care, have cane syrup. though i'm now down to my last can.

my wife is big into prohibition cocktails, but now substitutes Steen's for simple syrup or turbinato syrup in her cocktail recipes. it's a game changer.

pro-tip...coat some brussel sprouts with olive oil and roast/broil until just charred, toss with sea salt, fresh ground pepper, a dash of balsamic and finish with a drizzle of Steen's. it'll make a Christian out of you.

I grew up in Metairie and my Me'Me' always had a can of Brer Rabbit on the table.
Wasn't until I moved to Laffy that I became partial to Steen's

Brer Rabbit and Bunny Bread were a match made in heaven

We had it in my house as a kid in New Orleans, though I only used it on biscuits. My maternal grandmother's family was from north of Alexandria so I suspect it came from them.

I didn't mind the stuff we used to get straight from the sugar cane labs (or at least that's where I was told) in Terrebonne Parish, but I just can't tolerate Steens. My dad swears it tastes the same but it just tastes awful to me.

For those that aren't beer nerds, Canebrake beer (Parish) is brewed using Steens as the sugar component.

Grew up in BR and we ate Steens regularly. Poured it on leftover cornbread for dessert during the week.

An ex put it on her red beans. I tried it, wasn't bad at all.

Yup. Steens and Evangeline Maid bread beats the living shite out of some rabbit syrup and rabbit bread.

I'm not a beer drinker... is there any faint taste of Steen's?

Coonass’ last meal should be Steen syrup and corn bread. Above is a Killer with white beans and sausage. T/L, you haven’t lived till you put Steens’ on some Arrowhead Mills pancake mix. Steen’s pecan pie recipe is on the label. Working on that pic for you.

I love it on biscuits and toast. I once made the popcorn balls recipe on the bottle. It was just like the ones we would get trick or treating when I was a kid.

My grandparents were from Convent and we always had it on the table.

I keep it in the pantry now but nobody else in my family likes it.
