Yeah, the widening of that road did wonders for traffic that used to be backed up down Lee constantly, but building up the curb has been nothing but a pain in the arse. Going to anything in the Winn Dixie parking lot, or to that McDonald’s, requires me to get onto Burbank and U-Turn either to get there or to leave.

They added dual left turn lanes a while back to that area. The city put in a barrier preventing left turns from Lee Drive south into McDonalds.

So they are probably trying to move to a better corner for that traffic flow.

Yeah I think it may have been the nail in the coffin for that Winn Dixie after the Rouses opened up in a location with far better access.

I bet Cane's moves across the street too. Maybe they'll scoop up the Atomic Burger location if it closes.

They opened right next door to each other near Quail Springs Mall in Oklahoma City on Pennsylvania Ave. Traffic during lunchtime has been completely screwed up ever since.....

It needs to be upgraded bad though. If a move otherwise works, it keeps them from having to close for a few weeks.

Between the concrete divider that went up on lee with the bridge and getting rid of two U-turns when the intersections got reconfigured, it's hard to get in and out of. Plus the traffic patterns have completely changed since it was built.

Had a teacher that called McDonald's a real estate company that happens to sell burgers to pay the note. Build at a quiet corner, wait for property value to spike, then move to a secondary lot off the corner and sell the prime corner. Once you've heard this, you notice they do it all over.

they get some good business, but Whataburger is going to be a problem.

I like their burgers and fries. their shakes (which is supposedly one of their fortes) are not that great

They could have avoided this if Ben Hur went all the way up to Highland. But Louisiana is gonna Louisiana.

Whataburger has the green hatch chili burger. I was bummed to see them build right next to Atomic tbh. Oh well.

I was actually just about to type this in the last comment I wrote. I had read that before as well, and keeping that in mind, the move makes a lot more sense.

One small concern I have is that the Exxon by Walmart on Highland/Lee shut down soon after being renovated and now is a complete eyesore.. Winn Dixie will be closing and Canes moving, along with McDonalds. The houses next door to Walgreens are horrible..

I hope that little stretch doesn't become really shitty.

Eventually they will have to widen Lee drive between Highland and Perkins. That usually means more restrictions on left turns into properties near an intersection. Which means the smaller businesses that once had prime property on a moderately busy corner will no longer be accessible from some directions without U-turns.

So it's probably going to happen one day soon, especially if the city is successful in incorporating all the demands that Southdowns has for the Lee Drive project. The project is already being funded and I think they already have the right of way. They may have already moved the utility poles back from the street in the area between Boone and Highland.

What was once a convenience store or fast food restaurant will turn into an oil change place, urgent care, liquor store, or an independent restaurant that's less dependent on optimal traffic flow. This is probably less of a concern for the pharmacies and gas stations with direct access to Highland, but it will be a problem for businesses near the intersection but whose only curb cut is on Lee Drive.

Historically in LA they move at a snail's pace. I've been to the one on Siegen twice in the 8 years or so I've lived in BR. I just have no interest in waiting 20+ minutes to get fast food.

It's not bad but there is nothing special about it when there are way too many burger joints around.

I'd rather just go the mcdonalds right there instead or definitely the whataburger

I could be wrong, but I think think Shipleys is taking that spot. Even if they install a curb barrier when they widen Nicholson, a donut place there will be okay. I think most of their business is in the AM rush, which is northbound on that part of LA 30.
