I grew up in New Orleans and still spend a lot of time there. and I think Houston's food scene is every bit as good as New Orleans'.

Could you name some of these wonderful, memorable dining establishments to which traveling foodies flock to Houston on their vacations? Believe me, I shall try some of them the next time I’m in Houston, which should be in April.

If I wanted a poboy or creole I’d go to New Orleans. Beyond that they don’t do much better than Houston.

NOLA and especially its seafood is the apex of all things culinary. There's not a lot other cuisines add to it.

Houston is more diverse. So what? Having more relatively bland food options makes what better?

One thing NOLA could import from H-town is BBQ. Houston is the BBQ capital of the world.

It’s the 4th biggest city in the US, it shouldn’t leave you wanting loubaw

Are there better chefs? No. Are there more chefs? Of course. Better access to ingredients? I don’t think. More restaurants? Definitely.

Any city that is 5 times the size of NOLA can beat it on sheer volume of choices and people.

Nola has a unique food culture and does it very well in a compact scene.

Lived in both. Have lived and still live in htown longer. While I really enjoy what Houston’s food scene has become since I moved here, I still prefer the Nola restaurant scene.

Yet, year after year, people travel to NOLA specifically for memorable dining experiences.

Because that's what the city is known for and pretty much nothing else

Any chain in some strip center in some county not named Harris should do you just fine.

It has a couple good places but I do t think Houston is the bbq capital of texas. I think that’s Austin.

Jackson street bbq by Minute Maid is fricking FANTASTIC.

That’s probably true. Bigger city and much more diverse in terms of offerings.

I love the defensiveness of the natives though. Haha! So salty.

Houston has excellent choices for all different levels of dining and has New Orleans beat on variety and diversity.

New Orleans though, has its own cuisine which can't be duplicated or translated successfully, anywhere. No other city in the country can make that claim.

Since this offers no specific restaurant choice, perhaps you should explain the implication, Mr. Pudenda.

Houston has the advantage of being a big city

New Orleans has the advantage of a genuinely unique good culture.

I don't think that's correct, PMan. There's jazz music, festivals, French and Spanish architecture, the French Quarter etc...

Never eaten but my guess is it would be batting about 10th in Houston's lineup.
