Started a seed back in 2005 on my porch. 11 years later it has started producing. Here's a few of the first one's from this tree.

Soon to be guacamole and sliced for burger topping

Not as pretty as the store bought, though a whole lot better.

Congrats, most people can't wait that long or kill them before the start producing. Avocado's are pretty hard to grow in the south with all the rain since they like to dry out a bit before watering again. Its best to put them under a big shade tree. I don't have the patience to wait years to get fruit.

Congrats!

The fruit looks like shite, though. Is that from insects getting to them?

How about slicing one open and posting a pic of the interior?

Going to cut a couple later tonight.......of course I'm posting a pic I'm no rookie FDB member LOL

Outsides just can look like that sometimes, it's not really bugs.

You can buy a grafted plant/ tree that will produce after a couple of years.

Well, at least in the meantime you have a tree.

Have relatives in McAllen, Texas. When we cross paths they always give me sacks of fresh picked from the grove across the street. Nothing better.

My mom's been trying to grow avocados for years, but she can never seem to keep them alive long enough. She actually had a few plants going which had survived for 2 or 3 years, but I think the flood just killed them.

I had one with toothpicks going over a glass in the window for a year. It had sprouted pretty well.

Died in transition to soil. I f'd it up. Never tried again. I will though after seeing this. I'm inspired. I'll bump this thread in 2027.

Wow!

I may not live long enough longer to see one through from seed to fruit.

How many seeds in an avocado? (1)

How many avocadoes in an avocado seed? (Only God Knows)
