I agree 100%. You wait at Franklin's to say you went to Franklins but it's not worth waiting so long for. It may be "the best" but the difference between #1 and #2 isn't 3 hours. It isn't even 1 hour.

Yeah. Most would not wait if they were forbidden to tell anyone they had been there.
I liken it to a 3 hour line to get a free blowjob from Miss America. The BJ itself is not worth the wait, but the thought of making Facebook posts about it will keep folks in line.

3 hours? No way. An hour? Sure, but only for exceptional restaurants without reservation taking (167 Raw). Grab a beer/cocktail and hang out...but even for 167, I'm planning to go during non-peak times.

Can't you bring an ice chest and drink in line at Franklin? I dunno. Doesn't seem that bad to me. Go with a group of about three buddies, ice chest full of beer, kill a 6-pack while we shoot the shite, then eat some iconic BBQ. I don't know if it's the best. But it would be a good day, and yeah, you get to say you ate at Franklin, which I guess makes you cool in some circles or something.

I'm sorry, but I have much better things to do with my time then stand in line. If I can't get in within 30 minutes it isn't in my list.
Too many great places take reservations. Fck standing in line kick a heard of cattle

My thoughts exactly. I'd like to try it just once...to see if his brisket is as good as mine.

See, that's the wrong mentality in my opinion. The line would just be part of the experience. If you're there for just the food I don't think it's possible for you to leave without being disappointed (I would think, I've never been, so I can't definitively say). Relax and drink with good company, that sounds like a solid morning to me. No different than waking up early to go fishing or something.
Now, would I do it a second time? Almost certainly not. But I'd do it once.

I somewhat agree with you
But
A bad day of standing in line still beats a good day at the office

Yes and lawn chairs and umbrellas.
From Q&A with Franklin

Can you describe what's so great about the experience waiting to get the food?
People will make mimosas sometimes, bring a whole bunch of beer, and they treat it as if they are tailgating for a football game. There are kids out in the lot playing frisbee or football, there are lawn chairs all over the place, and there's plenty of breakfast food. Some bring blankets, some make friends. I'll go check on tables all the time who tell me, "We just met that person over there!" They'll buy each other beers, and it's really nice. It's kind of a cool thing.

Are the waits consistent every day or do they fluctuate?
It definitely fluctuates. Tuesday and Wednesday are definitely our slowest days, when waits run about an hour or ninety minutes. Saturdays it's just ridiculous! There are usually three-hundred people outside before we even open, and it stays at about a three hour wait.
The weather really does affect all of this, though, since you're standing outside.

There is link on the Franklin article page to people standing in line for craft beers.

One thing I do like about pecan lodge is if you orser more than 5 pounds you can skip that long arse line and head up to the front.

I've had a decent amount of brisket around central TX. This includes Kreuz, Blacks, Salr Lick, Coopers, J Mueller, La BBQ, Mickelthwaite and others. Franklin is the best. So if you want the best, go there. There are other places like La BBQ abd Mickelthwaite that have very good brisket with much shorter waits. Do what fits your schedule.

We waited for La BBQ on a Saturday for about 2 hours. Of course, they had a keg so it was totally fine.
3 hours for what is supposed to be the best? Sure if I am with a group of friends, we all know the deal and have the drinks.

I don't know about this one. I've put up with a lot worse than waiting for 3 hours to get a blowjob from ladies not as attractive as Miss America before I got married, which was preTinder though.

This sounds like a fun time. I'd be down for that

The line is longer and less worth it than it used to be. BBQ has gotten much better across the board, and more people are able to cook just as well as Franklin.
Franklin's BBQ is still incredible, but there are a ton of options in the area that are just as good.

Do they have #linesforhours?

This is 100% why i did it. Was in for my little bro's graduation and we just hung out, had some breakfast tacos and relaxed. It was May in Austin so a bit hot but not unbearable.
FTR, we were there at about 7:15, and ate at about 1. That's a lot longer than 3 hours, but it was an experience

That's wild that you go to your lunch spot with a wait so long that you are able to eat breakfast before
