It's tough to pull the trigger on a tiny $8 rotisserie chicken from the regular grocery store when Costco sells massive, juicy birds for $5.

Wow. No good deed goes unpunished.

The point of the post was that the chicken from Sams was not very good. That has nothing to do with not being grateful or appreciative of the church's generosity.

Sam's over Costco at my house, more juicy white meat.

We pull it apart and make a salad with the leftovers.

Same. I slightly heat up the leftover chicken slices (or pieces) and will create a salad.

Quick, simple, and satisfying meal.

Absolutely!

Sam's RCs are huge and a great value for $5. The only downside is, you better be in line when they bring them out because they're gone in 10 minutes.

HEB bird for us. Never had Sam’s or Costco version. Have to drive by 5 HEBs to get to one. And, it’s just the Mrs & me.

OP-
Lots of variations of tacos
Sandwich with BBQ sauce, onion, etc
Enchiladas
Add to a green leaf salad, Cobb etc
Lots of variations on chk salad
Greek style wraps
Pasta salad

Gotta be more but that’s all I can think of at the moment.

Same. I haven’t made gumbo from raw chicken in years, lol.

I use rotisserie in 100% of recipes that call for cooked chicken. No reason not to! And the carcass makes a fantastic stock.

Grocery store rotisserie chicken
by xBirdxMan- is there a better value?

It seems to be a better value because most (probably not Costco) just uses their whole chickens that exceed their “sell by” date.

Then they get overcooked (errors of undercooking happen) So they are a tad dryer than if you were to roast it yourself with the goal of quality.

But aged, overcooked chicken still has a place in gumbo and chicken salad when additional moisture is added. Most people won’t know the difference.

I've never cooked a whole chicken as good as a proper grocery store rotisserie bird, if I'm being honest.

Maybe some stores do that, but it's more common for the chickens to come straight from the processing plant ready to be rotisseried. Sold as WOGs (without giblets) and already marinated with the flavor they are sold under.

Only time I buy a whole chicken anymore is if I’m going to smoke it.

Ideal Market does a flame grilled one that comes with grilled jalapeno and green onion bulb. Different and good.

Albertsons does mixed dark roasted 8pc on Mondays for $6. Can’t be beat.

Used to be true, but the grocery stores around here have apparently suffered from shrinkflation. They used to be a staple in our household. Now they are tiny little chickens.

Great price and very versatile. I’ll cook down the bones and skin with some celery leaves and onion tops and we will make a great soup and have plenty to make sandwiches, tacos, put on a flatbread, salad or pasta salad or just eat with a side. It’s a cheat code for sure.
