Forcing "Healthy" Foods on Employees

My wife works at Big Ochsner and they recently made sweeping changes to the kinds of food available in the in-house restaurants available for employees.

For example, French Fries are only available one day per month and you can't get mashed potatoes, but you are instead encouraged to eat pureed cauliflower, which may look similar, but doesn't taste anywhere near the same.

My wife says those restaurants are now virtually empty. What do y'all think about this?

I don't think they are forcing them. They can still bring their own lunches or go out to eat for lunch right?

That would seem evident since the places are empty

I think it's smart of health care providers to do this. No one is holding a gun to their head and forcing them to eat it.

Sounds like my aunt who complained that her employer "forced" them to leave the premises to smoke.

Well, I don't like cauliflower at all so I wouldn't be happy about that. I do like the idea of french fries only once a month.

I would love to have only healthy options near my workplace.

Hey, it's their premises, why should they sell thing that are against their best interests? You sound like a whiny "entitled" douche.

They're not "offering" it - there's really no other choice without going off campus.

I agree.

Some hospitals are taking it even further.

No, that's coming next year, when they put weight, exercise and other requirements on employees.

Sounds like they're losing money, with people now leaving to get their "unhealthy" fixes elsewhere, while at the same time drastically cutting into profits they would be making with people eating in the in house restaurants.

Every corporation should do this.

You do realize this isn't for health reasons as much as image reasons, don't you?

Sure. I've got no problem with a health care facility imposing health standards on their employees and trying to lead by example.

It might also decrease the costs of their group health insurance costs if they can prove that their employees are significantly healthier than the general population.

Typical Ochsner. But at our office you pay more per month if your BMI is over 30.

No, they are "offering" it.

The employees do not HAVE to eat it.

Therefore, it's the definition of offered:

Present or proffer (something) for (someone) to accept or reject as so desired:

Yea right. They are not offering anything. They changed the menu from what people ate and switched it to something they don't. They're is no compromise. Bring your lunch or eat smushed cauliflower.

If I offered a bunch of black dudes a Merle Haggard CD instead of their Lil Wayne, I'm not offering them shite.

It might be a shitty offer, but it would be an offer.

Don't like it? Bring a lunch or take your break to get lunch/order in. I say this as someone who works in education and the only "options" on campus is school cafeteria food.

And we're not talking your mother's baked potato bar here.
