At least she is offered something hot. All we are offered is pre made, previously frozen sandwiches, terrible sushi and awful salads. You either bring something or go out to lunch.

The Ochsner main campus is one of my customers, and i go all the time.
I've seen them offer pizza, and their turkey burgers are pretty solid.

I did notice their drinks are all Teas and diets, and all the chips are baked... but over all, for it being hospital food, it's not that bad

I wish my employer offered something like this. I'm curious, are their lunches discounted? About how much does this lunch cost the employees?

My friend works there and we were just talking about this. Their lunches were never discounted and the thing that pisses her off is the way the head honcho talked to them about it. He got rid of a lot of things that I would think are healthy.

Also, her patients when on a "regular diet" still get bacon and chocolate cake with every meal...that doesn't jive with the whole "healthy atmosphere" to me.

No, that's coming next year, when they put weight, exercise and other requirements on employees.

I really wish our office would do this. But our HR person who heads up the "wellness program" is a 250+ pound woman. Some of the people at our office must not own a mirror, or just DGAF about their health/appearance.

Difference being, the hospital isn't paying the patients.

Note to self, open restaurant in old Jefferson near Ocshner.

I'm sure people there get tired of Deckbar cafe and the Rivershack

Man, that's what I was thinking. What a great opportunity for a lunch spot.

All they have is Subway, Deckbar, Southern Poboys and a Chinese place, for something like 5,000 people.

I'd open "Deep Fried Everything".

I can't remeber the exact price for my "healthy meal" in the Ochsner cafeteria but it was less than $5 and included a fountain drink. Most of the meals I had there were delicious.

I think it's smart of health care providers to do this. No one is holding a gun to their head and forcing them to eat it.

Agree.

Just like I agreed with Whole Foods not offering health insurance to their employees who are grossly obese. When you choose to work in a profession that promotes health, you should probably act the part.

(I just finished Chaucer's Pardoner's Tale and it's all this reminds me of)

Every corporation should do this.

No, no they shouldn't. Each corporation should independently assess their situation, and determine what's reasonable. I believe, no correct that, I know employee morale is absolutely one of the most important aspects of the work environment. If this isn't popular, and it's not working, then why continue? To prove a point?

And the whole offering healthy only options to employees at work will make a difference line? No it fricking won't. The fatties & whoever else will still eat what the frick they want at home, on the weekends & go out for lunch. But the mouth breathers & do-gooders can tell everyone they're "making a difference", and that's all that matters....intentions.

ETA: Just to be clear, because, I'm sure some moron will misinterpret what I'm saying. I 100% support a company's right to offer whatever they want for lunch. It's absolutely their right. However, if they truly cared about the health & well-being of their employees, they would incentivize it.
