re: For those who are no longer into craft beer. What happened, why did you change your mind?

most of what you posted is true but not relevant. I cannot and will not go back to insipid piss water mass produced beers now that I know what beer is supposed to taste like. There are a number of excellent local breweries that make great beers that aren’t flavored stouts or hop bomb IPAs…I drink Vienna style lagers, pilsners and similar that are 10x better than gas station beer and am happy to be able to enjoy them.
Right now is the best beer there has ever been in my lifetime and tomorrow will be even better

Interesting take, but I think you’re wrong.

I cut back to only drinking on vacations a little over 2 years ago. Before that I was a BIG craft beer guy. I’m talking would get off work on a Friday and spend $100 on several different 4 packs and get absolutely hammered off of them at home that night (we all know how high those ABVs get). Loved the hazy IPAs and Wheats, hated sours and golden ale. They’re all heavy and expensive and the market is over saturated now, but it is something I do miss from time to time.
Was never a liquor guy. I tried to be the “rare whiskey snob” once because of all the calories I was drinking with beer. Bought some $70 bottle from calandros and poured me up a glass neat to sip on while I watched a baseball game. I think the same glass sat there all 9 innings. I’m a pussy when it comes to drinking that stuff

I feel like the industry has had a healthy shake up and gotten better than when everybody was just trying to chase the latest fad. Those who found and generally settled on their own niche seem to be the ones who are sustaining. It’s much better this way.
I still like beer above probably anything else. Go chase the next fad. That’s fine.

Bourbon
This is the answer. I always enjoyed both, the 50# I lost by not drinking 2-3 300+ calorie bombs every night suggests going bourbon only other than an occasional social outing was a good call.

Calories and carbs keep my consumption low, however, with seafood, BBQ, beef, or frog legs, a hoppy beer is nice. I just can't go back to the bland domestics.

After trying over a 1,000 beers throughout the past decade or so, I now stick to Abita Amber and Sam Adams Boston Lager. To me they’re both the most consistent and reliable beers out there.

Beer that looks like orange juice, tastes like grapefruit juice, and makes one fat and sloppy just doesn’t have the same appeal it once did. Maybe I grew up, not sure.

I know that our taste buds change as we age but the market for juicy IPAs is just way too saturated. It’s overwhelming.

I still drink craft beer, but I don’t chase it any longer. I tend to look for saisons, APAs, and… yes… NEIPAs and enjoy trying new breweries and beers still. I’m burnt out on sours, though I have a few of the more refreshing ones I’ll grab on a hot day. That being said, I find myself more and more often just grabbing a European Pilsner when I’m picking up beer at the store.

No beer on earth is as good as a glass of Cabernet for me.

1. made me fat
2. made me feel like shite
3. became ridiculously expensive to stop in for 2 beers

Can’t believe how much they charge for a 4 pack these days. Well in the $20’s.

I always thought breweries would want to give a discount at the brewery since there is zero middle man and it's a great opportunity to get people wanting your beer to buy more there or from retailers, but boy was that wrong.
$7.50 for a pint of beer sitting feet away from where it was brewed is crazy.

I still drink the same 3-5 brands regularly like ghost, Jucifer, grace and grit, but I rarely try new ones. And the prices have gotten ridiculous.

I'm still into it.. and still prefer the hazy IPAs.. I just drink a lot less beer than I did 5-10-15 years ago.
Maybe once a week I'll go for beer.
There are plenty of breweries around here doing great.. the ones that have bad beer or a bad atmosphere have folded.

Too many crappy parents thinking it was cool to bring their young children to a brewery. Really hurt the cause.

No one would make a decent and available German style lager in a can.

For me the largest cause of was the variations and taste differences. I no longer felt I could order a new IPA and get a beer that tasted like a traditional IPA. Too many weird variations and people trying to do too much. Consistency sucked and I had no confidence in them.
Bourbon also played a part.
