Oysters and salt water fish. I was raised on catfish, I remember being around 10 and trying seafood from the Gulf at a restaurant and I couldn’t stand it. I was in my early 30’s before I gave it another try and now I love it.

A lot of them, I grew up a pretty picky eater.

Still am compared to most, but I am definitely finding more things that I like now. I even cooked up some Brussels sprouts the other night that turned out fantastic.

Reading some of these, I'm sure many of the things I didn't like were because my parents couldn't cook worth a crap. They like it when we cook for them now.

I was a weird kid, if I saw my parents eat something, I wanted some. Oysters, hogshead cheese, eggplant, liver & onions, lamb, I wasn't going to miss out on anything.

Oddly, mashed potatoes was the first food I remember hating, but I guess it was the texture, and it seemed like just a big bland blob. I also couldn’t stand rice. Meanwhile, I was eating Brussels sprouts (before people roasted them), spinach, beets, and other things kids often don’t like.

I wish I’d never learned to love both of those.
