I just poured a butt ton of blue cheese crumbles into my salad, and it got me thinking that there is a decently long list of foods I shunned as a kid but love now. I'm sure some of you were born with more refined palates, but these are some of my "old man foods" that I love now but would have run away from at age 7:

-blue cheese
-olives
-anchovies
-black jelly beans
-asparagus
-garlic, better cooked but I like it however
-lemons cooked in anything
-obviously whisky and beer too
-black coffee (didn't drink any coffee until I was 35)

What's on your "old man foods" list?

I have always liked most of those things, maybe not so much the asparagus. For me, it has to be mushrooms, greens, and brussels sprouts.

Red beans and rice. Hated them as a kid. Love them now.

I forgot about oysters. I was scared of them until was like 16. I live in Kansas now and miss fresh oysters like nothing else.

And for a healthier way, try it grilled. Get the grill hot, sprinkle the pods with a bit of olive oil so your seasoning will stick and grill it to your liking. I like mine grilled with good marks on it and take them off before they start to split open-----maybe 10 minutes tops on a hot grill.

As a kid, I never cared for butter, sour cream, yogurt or most forms of cheese. Now I eat most all of it with the exception of yogurt products.

I actually wouldn't eat pizza until I was a mid-teen because of the mozzarella cheese on it. Now it's one of my favorites when cooking.

Ok I need to try this.

Also celery and carrots, raw. Great snack.

Pretty much everything. I was an extremely picky eater as a kid, but my palate has matured greatly and I developed a willingness to try pretty much anything, so now there isn't much I won't eat.
