Not sure I’ll ever go back. The asbestos, cigarette smoke, and dim lighting to cover up all the mold won’t be there. It’s not FDL without it

Fleur de Lis was a dive bar? news to me
Up until about 40 years it was decidedly a dive bar that served pizza. It morphed away from being a dive bar at some point after that and turned into just a shithole old building with a bar that wasn’t really used all that much that sold pizza.

No one would finance the remodel? For one, the bathrooms will have to meet ADA requirements. I don't know if Baton Rouge has any requirements for a number of stalls based on occupancy.

Ed Batson passed away a few weeks ago. Seems doubtful this will ever get off the ground now.

Saw an agents sign on the building when I passed by yesterday.

Time to sell the recipes to Brewbachers and move FDL across the street.. they should be sitting on that insurance money from the fire back in 21. Just rebuild it as FDL and let the current address be townhouses or something.

What role did he have in the project?
Someone named Carl Batson appeared to have a primary role in the project.

They're brothers. Carl or Andy as he's known, is a real estate guy. Ed has run several restaurants/bars and was involved with the Walkons brand. I expect he was going to manage the day to day operation.

will, but likely permits or planning.
Likely. I refuse to do most work (engineering) in EBR because of the incompetent petty tyrants in the permit office. The juice ain’t worth the squeeze.

quote:permitting in the city is routed to a third party and submitted/reviewed/issued completely online. It’s quick and generally painless and one of the very few things that Baton Rouge does efficiently. There are no petty tyrants left at the permit office

now, if you are talking about the planning commission you definitely have a point

This is NOT my experience with them. The shite they require for someone to build a patio awning or a fence over 6ft or many other example I’m not typing on a phone, are obsurd and does nothing to “protect the public”.
I've seen them harass an old couple trying to put up a metal building mercilessly. I had to submit calculations on an 8ft wood fence this guy was trying to build. Fvck them.

quote:I have no interest in arguing with you but “the shite they require” is based on the IBC, the NRC and the NEC as well as any other state and local ordinances. In other words, the building codes.

Man frick off with that. I have PE licenses in 37 states. EBR is way up there on the shite list.
Reffing the building code. Lol Nice.

maybe they just don’t like you?
I’ve pulled thousands of EBR permits never once dealt with a tyrant LOL

Also the issue at FDL has nothing to do with permitting

I stand corrected. Really thought these guys would finish it out.

Too much work and not enough room for profit
