When Fleming's first opened in BR and for years after, it was a solid alternative to Ruth's.

Steaks nearly on par with Ruth's
As good, if not better, sides
Great wine/liquor selection
Great service
Less staid atmosphere

However, something happened about 10 years ago and the steak quality plummeted. Went there and was very disappointed (as we're the others at the table). Figured it was a one off/bad night and went back a few months later - same result. So, it went into the "nope" list.

Heard about 3 years ago things were better and decided to give them another shot. If anything, it had gotten worse. Steak quality had not improved and now the sides were suffering.

Any F&D experts have the skinny?

My guess is corporate tried to squeeze profit margins up and cut corners somewhere. No evidence to back this up, but the last time I went there was about 9 years ago and my experience was what you described.

Yep - same here. Had multiple bad experiences and never went back. It's not like it's suddenly gone downhill -- it's been bad for a while.

It was arguably the best steakhouse in BR from around 2004-2009 or so.

They stop feature 100 wines by the glass which is pretty much the best wine selection out there.

Their happy hour burger used to get rave reviews on here. But it’s been well over a decade since I’ve heard about their once ballyhooed happy hour and burger.

A solid alternative to Fleming’s would be Sullivan’s or Ruth’s Chris.

I really enjoyed Flemings when it first opened but I haven't been in a long time. Sad to hear that the quality has dipped.

We use to hit up their happy hour, I can't remember the last time I went for that.

I remember back when it first opened they had a great prime rib special on Sundays. I only really ever went there for that. No clue if they still do it.

I believe it was called "bar bites." It was a phenomenal deal. And back then, easily the best burger in the city.

They used to serve the best pork chop around here as well. Maybe they still do? I haven't been in quite some time. It's nowhere near the best pork chop in the world, Perry's will always hold that title, but it was very good for our city.

I recall that people would get there super early like right when they opened to secure a seat.

It was called the 567. It went from 5 until 7, and all the items were $6. 5 wines, 5 cocktails, and 5 food items. The carpaccio was phenomenal. For the burger, the move was to opt for the o-rings over the fries. They only gave you like 2-3 o-rings, but they were massive and came with a signature dipping sauce. As the burger had no condiments on it (didn't need them), you use the o-ring sauce on the burger. 10/10. Outstanding. And of course you started with the complimentary house made BBQ chips while you waited.

Bar bites came later when that deal got canceled. Bar bites was $10. And they did reverse happy hour. People stopped going.

It really is amazing. I have a Perry’s by my office and go to Friday lunch there once or twice a month for the pork chop.

I sit at the bar and it’s the same bartender every time. When my coworker and I walk in and sit down he’s putting in our order and it comes out in five minutes

I had a pretty bad experience at Sullivan's a few months ago. Both me and my FIL steaks were just bad.

I don't have the skinny, but I can speculate.

When a restaurant is run by the same parent company that operates Bonefish Grill, Carrabba's, and Outback Steakhouse, supply chain management differences probably erode over time.

I got their happy hour burger all the time when I lived in Baton Rouge. Sucks to hear they've gone downhill. We would go some Friday's before games if Ruth's was booked and a few times had terrible service but the food was great
