sourced locally or online is ok

Plain olive oil or one that is 'seasoned'

There is one of those fancy olive oil shops nearby that I always have a few things from.

It's not cheap, but it's the best extra virgin olive oil I've ever had.

I'm waiting for Ina Garten to chime in with her recommendation of "good" olive oil.

There are some fantastic olive oils out there and vinegars. Once I went to a store that all they sold was olive oil and vinegars. They get real expensive.

I buy Costco premium EVOO for salads and bread and vegetable drizzle. I buy Costco light olive oil for everything else, cooking, roasting, saute, sear, etc.

Same here. Another good place to find olive oil at reasonable prices is, believe it or not, Mona's. Next to their café on Banks St. is a small store operated by them and they have tons of great products on the shelves you will never find in conventional U.S. supermarkets, and at very reasonable prices.

It is hard to find good olive oil here in the US. The mafia apparently runs most of the olive oil production here and it is all cut with stuff and not true olive oil. I had a friend getting her MBA who had to do a whole case study on it, it was truly fascinating. To get true olive oil I would recommend paying the higher prices and go to a small spice shop to get real stuff from Spain, Greece, ect.

We like the fancy infused EVOOs at Red Stick Spice Co. in Baton Rouge. They are located in the Jefferson/Bocage area. It's definitely worth a stop if you have time.

You have to be careful with buying olive oil, because the vast majority that is sold is mixed with other oils. You can google articles detailing which are sold here in the States that are pure OO.

California Olive Ranch is one, and it's very good. They have a small lineup that ranges from buttery tasting to every day cooking. I highly recommend it.

Pretty sure this is a blended oil, as well. May want to check the label.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good everyday oil to use.

Cali Olive ranch sells blended stuff right now: poor harvest in ÇA meant that they had to buy from abroad and blend to cover their expanded retail distribution. I generally buy it, when I can get the actual picked in ÇA version.
