Drink Order at a Restaurant

If water is not given to you on the house how many of your order water over some other drink? If you had to guess, is it bottled or tap?

Probably would not ask for it unless I was drinking a cocktail as well. My guess its tap maybe in house filtered at some places that have a set up.

If they don't bring a water automatically, I ask for it. Then I think about what cocktail I desire. BTW, cocktail prices have become ridiculous. I paid $15 for a Bombay martini recently, maybe I'm old and cheap, but that seems high.
BTW, I read in an industry magazine that servers who always bring water make much higher tips. Interesting.

I would likely order a cocktail or beer.
I remember as a kid going to some fancy restaurant in Chicago and the water was Evian bottles they poured into your glass at the table

Seldomly do I drink anything other than water with a meal so I would order it, and would not mind paying for it
As long as the tap water does not have a strong taste it is fine with me

The waiter is making a mistake; I was going to add to his tip the $2 I saved on that Diet Coke, but no refills nets the standard amount.
On the tap v. bottled issue, I noticed in England that if you order water they usually ask which you prefer. Tap is free.

Not sure where you’re eating, but I’ve never had that happen. And I drink a metric ton of water when dining out.

Nor have I. In fact, if we are somewhere that most people are doing water + wine/cocktails, I find it's the odd Diet Coke order that doesn't get refilled as often just because it's a one-off item vs. water where there are pitcher all over the restaurant for refills.

All things equal, a waiter that is good about keeping my water filled, while not obnoxiously topping it off every 2 seconds, will get a higher tip than standard 20% from me.

I order water every time I go to a restaurant, I assume it's tap water and I have no issue with that.

That being said, it's still relatively easy to come by.

I picked up 2 1/2 gallons of Buffalo Trace last week at Costco for a total of $85 and change.
GTFO with charging $16 for a 2 ounce OF.

I always drink water with my meals, don’t drink soft drinks or tea.
Also usually have at least one cocktail at lunch and more if it’s dinner or Friday lunch

My friends and I all have “Home Bars”, which consist of a separate bar from within the house. Either a shed, garage, outdoor pool, a separate room etc. We go bar hopping to each other’s houses or have a party at one on weekends or during the week. We all make cocktails so, paying out of the arse for drinks does not happen often.

Living in Baton Rouge, I drink tap and it is delicious. When traveling The price of bottled and sparkling is usually the same so I might get fancy. In some cities they look at you like you have two heads if you ask for tap...and with good reason.
